Track each piece of equipment by make, model, and serial number (including coordination of serial numbers for each PC/laptop/server's hard drive, for complete inventory control).
We recommend and prefer total destruction of hard drives to ensure safe data removal. Today's data recovery techniques are becoming so much more sophisticated that the only guaranteed way of disposing all of the confidential information on hard drives is by completely destroying them. Our complete physical data and media destruction is performed in highly secured, highly supervised monitored facilities.
The first step to recycling used IT related equipment, is to evaluate it for re-use on the used market. Our philosophy is to sell your used equipment immediately without any delays. With regards to used IT equipment, the time is NOW when it comes to selling. Upon equipment evaluation, ViaTeK will pay for equipment up front, before we sell it.
As your equipment arrives at our facility, it is labeled and the weight checked into our system. During processing each item is scanned into our tracking system. If hard drives are required to be shredded, they are immediately scanned, removed, and placed in a secured lock box. Data destruction is performed at the end of each day the hard drives and other data containing equipment are removed from the secured lock box and shredded.
