Home was in terrible shape. Was told house keeping would come to clean. This is not a “cleanable” solution. Mold is on the ceiling and the house overall is in very bad condition. DO NOT RENT Sandy Britches from Surf or Sound.

The "discoloration on the ceiling" was NOT cleaned by anyone and was there the entire time we stayed in the house because Surf or Sound told us there was no where else we could stay. The next day we received another email indicating it is now pet friendly and the very next day we were informed of the rate increase of an additional $1800 dollars which is crazy as this house does not even have a master bedroom. I stayed in a three bedroom Surf or Sound house last summer and everything was fine. After I left, I decided to stay in the same house again this upcoming summer. I paid a deposit of $230 in early August to hold the property for next summer based on their estimates, which were around the amount I paid this past summer.
They sent me the lease this week with the actual rates. They increased the rate of the three bedroom house by $800. With all the fees and the rate increase, I will be paying $1,150 more than I paid last year for the same house. I never would have put down a deposit if I knew this

So I did a pre-reservation for Sept 2022. $2,295 for the week. When I receive the lease this week... when you add all the extra costs they sneak into the lease the house came to over $3,700. I've rented plenty of houses in the Outer Banks over the last 20 years and never had all these extra fees added on by other rental agencies. So now I'm out the $228 reservation fee because I refuse to rent something with massive hidden fees. They refuse to refund it. Stay away from this company unless you like throwing money away. RENTERS BEWARE...Reserved a house in July 2021 for June 2022-based on the price listed for NEXT year. Got the lease and the price was almost DOUBLE what we reserved. Paid a $325 reservation fee based on the numbers we saw on their website. Got the lease a few days ago with the new price. Tried calling them to find out what happened. We rented Oceans Lore #937 from Surf or Sound. The house was listed as Movie Theater with Theater seating! LIE AND FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. Nothing like this existed. Then the listing also stated NEW FURNITURE FOR 2021! LIE AND FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. The house and all furnishings was old and filthy! The house had mold and cockroaches. The tubs were falling apart. The fridges were broke and leaked water everywhere! The pool was absolutely disgusting also! It was a complete disgusting home. From the moment I made the reservation to stay in Rodanthe at a 5 Bedroom Beach House, Surf or Sound was responsive, friendly and reasonable. They even called a couple of hours after check in to see if everything was ok. Very proactive. We had a minor maintenance issue which they resolved in a matter of hours! Great management group. Made our stay a delight!

Our family is always happy to visit the outer banks. This time we stayed at #65 Bali Wind, in Avon. On arrival it was clear that this house has not been maintained, or cleaned. Many of the lights do not work, surfaces thick with dust, disgusting gifts left from renters past, and some painful dangerous hazard. We’ve been here 6 days and met many of the resident cockroaches and a few of the fleas. We also enjoyed the smoke alarm going off from the dust in the air vents. I highly recommend visiting and highly recommend staying elsewhere.

I have never dealt with more rude people in my life. My husband and I rented two beach houses from this company for a week for our wedding. Someone in one of the houses turned on the pool heater (because why wouldn't you when the high for the week was only in the high 60s.) There was no sign saying not to turn it on, or that there would be a charge if it was turned on. There was no lock on the switch to turn it on. We stayed at the house named Solare in Salvo,NC in late august of 2021. We were very excited because we paid extra for early check in and the house was ready as promised.
Unfortunately, the house had not been thoroughly cleaned.The kitchen table and end tables were covered in fingerprints and food crumbs. We stepped on some shards of broken glass in the kitchen but this could happen, even if mopped and vacuumed, otherwise the kitchen was clean. Carpets were minimally vacuumed. TL:please read!!!! I just left our annual beach OBX trip. I usually use a different rental agency but I decided to branch out this year. Well, lesson learned!!!! We stayed at the house Getaways. The house is in desperate need of some maintenance, from broken deck boards, (safety hazards) loose railings and so many lightbulbs out or just missing from lamps. The house is not worth the cost. We stayed in Neptunes Nest Aug 7-14 and we were a group of mostly 1st time visitors to OBX. We had applied for early check in and had our key code at 12:56 pm! When we checked in we did a quick check of the house for anything the realtor should be notified of. Nothing was major- just inconvenient. Surf or Sound responded within 24 hours and sent someone out a few hours after that to address 2 of the issues ( missing bedroom TV and non working under counter ice maker) Ice maker would not be a quick fix so they brought us 2 huge bags of ice for one of our coolers and said call when you need more

Not anywhere close to the pictures they posted. Dirty. Raw sewage in the back, most blinds broken. Bugs, general dis-repair. Pictures tell it all. 3rd party and company visit to the home, which they all agreed was in very bad shape. In the end, offered a $150 credit. I emailed the representative and NO response. I will never rent from this company again. I don't like posting negative reviews, but when you give someone an opportunity to make something right and they don't.......

This was our third time using Surf or Sound realty. When we arrived at the house Lady of Dare #532 a bedroom door and one bathroom door were locked. I called Surf or Sound but had to leave a voice-mail. After running some errands and with no response I decided to pop by the office. The gal was very nice and let me know she would contact maintenance right away to unlock the doors. Maintenance unlocked the doors and left. The home was great (The Lighthouse) but we had some issues while there. The location and size of the house was terrific. The pool and spa were terrific.
However, we had two maintenance issues that were never resolved during out stay. First the smoke alarms went off the first day and we had no way to shut down. They did turn off after a while and we called for assistance. The service person didn't arrive for 24 hours. Meanwhile the alarms went off two more times. We are repeat customers of Surf or Sound. We stayed in Deep Purple last week and found multiple broken or unclean items during our stay. We called after checking in to report the broken items and received a call back indicating that someone would contact us about providing functional outdoor seating. We did not receive a call back.

The worst company I have ever used when renting in the obx. Called and emailed a bunch months before to request early check in and just to get an address for my rental. Very delayed in responding. Arrived to unclean rental that was untouched by cleaning staff. I called and email again and still very unresponsive. It wasn't minor at all. Place was absolutely filthy and basically unrentable. Moldy air filters, broken refrigerator shelves, no cookware, stained comforters, hair in showers, stained kitchen counter with food, dust everywhere, etc. I asked for cleaners to come everyday of my family

We stayed at Pamlico Baywatch #674 and arrived on time and our house was ready, there were a few items that we wanted noted and checked on from the previous visitors and a surf or sound representative was very courteous on the phone as well as they sent a tech out to make notes. Recently rented ,Just One More Day, in Rodanthe for our wedding.
Wanted to get all the family together in one place so there would be no trouble waiting for everyone to show up to go to dinner or anywhere else.
That worked out great and the facilities in the house were enjoyed by everyone.
The elevator was something I had not thought of when looking for a house but at 4 floors it was a real leg saver moving in and out with luggage.
Then the pool, spa and theater room got a bunch of use from everyone.
This house worked out so well for our needs and we have all talked about coming back to it again

Our August stay at a Surf or Sound was mixed. It is on the Outer Banks so we expected and wished for a rustic beach experience. The location was great and the quiet beach location was fabulous.
