Dr. Jennifer Carr O.D. provides a thorough and comprehensive eye examination. In addition to a glasses prescription, the exam will test your overall eye health.
She will test for Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Cataracts, and many other eye diseases. Dilation of the eyes, which allows for a more thorough look inside the eyes, is included but not required. We now offer Optomap Retinal Exam, which produces a digital image of your retina without dilation, to screen for abnormalities or disease.

Services
Dr. Jennifer Carr O.D. moved to Boulder upon graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry in 1999. She is an alum of University Of California, San Diego, where she earned her degree in Biological Sciences and Psychology. She trained extensively at a VA hospital in Portland, Oregon, as well as the multi-specialty ophthalmology practice of The Omni Eye Specialists in Denver, Colorado.

We have been clients of Dr. Carr's for years and she is always wonderful--warm, professional and knowledgeable. Her exams are thorough and efficient and she always notes changes she is seeing from our previous visits. My husband transitioned to progressives and she made it a seamless and easy process. We love picking out frames in her store! Everyone is so helpful and the selection is excellent!

When I was informed I would need glasses, I panicked. How in the name of Frank do I pick frames? Refusing help, I started trying on frames. After two hours of searching for the perfect one, I left the store defeated and confused. The next day, Dr. Carr called me and asked me to come in. There she stood with.....THE PERFECT FRAMES. this business is very respectful and mindful of Covid, friendly, professional, and gave me an eye exam that others simply couldn't do. YES DUDE. Yes.

I received incorrect contact prescriptions for both eyes. They have shortened their hours a lot because of COVID and rarely answer their phone during the hours they say they are there so, after almost 3 weeks of not being able to see well enough to drive, I have not been able to get replacements and will be going somewhere else after wasting hundreds of dollars there. Absolutely zero follow up on their behalf. Another annoying thing is that, despite shortening their hours etc for Covid, they still require you to pick them up at the shop instead of having them safely sent to your home.

I fell while hiking, resulting in some badly bent sunglasses. Christy did a fabulous job getting them back in shape. She was very friendly and helpful. My trip would have been ruined if they had not been fixed. This shop is meticulous about cleaning after each person, I felt comfortable there in this Covid environment. A great example of how an optician should operate.

Dr Carr is the best! Skilled, caring and just excellent at what she does. She fit me in on short notice when i had an eye problem and I could instantly feel reassured that I was in highly skilled hands.
She was gentle and thorough, relieved my pain quickly and was in all ways exactly what you hope for in a medical professional.
While I was checking out, a former patient stopped in to tell Jen how much she loved her as a service provider - well deserved praise! I recommend Dr Carr without reservation - your eyes could not be better cared for!

Dr. Carr and the staff at Frederic Ian Eyewear are amazing! The store is so cute, tons of options for glasses and hands down the BEST experience I've ever had getting a new pair of glasses. I have a very difficult prescription with 3 fairly significant issues and every other eye doctor I've been to can correct 2 out of the 3. Dr. Jennifer Carr was able to correct all 3 and I have the best prescription I've had in the 30 years I've been needing to wear glasses. She worked with my insurance, giving me a budget for my frames and found the options for my lenses that worked so that

I really like this place. After having an unpleasant experience at another optometrist in town, I was pleased to find Dr. Jennifer Carr to anyone. She helped me understand more about my eyesight than any other optometrist I've been to.
I am going back there today to get my eye prescription put into my sunglasses and my scuba mask as well as to get new contactas. I'm sure it will go well!

Great experience working with my man Larry. I have been looking at the same pair of glasses now for months and finally was ready to buy. They had the same Oliver Peoples cheaper then any other store in the boulder area as well as a way quicker turn around to get my lenses in and the glasses on my face. My overall experience once I decided to buy took two days to get them back to me.
I for sure recommend this place to anyone looking to get a new pair of glasses. Larry will work with you and give you a great experience.

Poor customer service. I called about options for a scratched lens on glasses purchased at FI. The guy was unhelpful, brusk, and annoyed that I asked him to look up the style number of the glasses. Months later I was in store and asked about a wobbling temple. Different guy was unfriendly and didn't give me information about a repair that I later found on the internet and by directly emailing Oliver Peoples.

I have avoided getting new glasses for years... But when my son broke my "TV" glasses I had no choice. Fredric Ian was able to fit me in the same day and I LOVED the frame selection. I DO believe I have glasses I will wear out of the house. Not sure if I ended up paying a bit more than what my insurance was supposed to cover (it was a very vague conversation) BUT I am satisfied so it is worth it.

1. The woman was stuffy.
2. Overcharged the copay, changed bill after some calls.
3. Pressured to do extra retinal scan, which was not necessary according to ophthamology.
4. Woman placed the bifocal line too high, in central vision, learned recently from another optometrist, on the hill, how it should be done (line is placed even with the lower lid, not the pupil as twas done at FI's.

I have been going to this place for the past 5 years + for my eye care (I wear contacts and glasses). My previous optometrist moved here, then ended up moving out of state, so my care was taken over by Dr. Carr and Larry, who helps run the place. I have been very pleased with the care I get through Frederic Ian and my husband's oldest also is now a current customer/patient who also gets contacts and glasses here. They are very responsive and friendly and also have a nice assortment of glasses to choose from should you need any, whether they are prescription or otherwise. Location is convenient

Dr. Jennifer was great! Both my wife and I just had through first patient exam's and she was very helpful in selecting frames and lenses in our budget. She even checked us in and handled the insurance billing, which I think is fantastic service. It adds a level of personal touch when the Dr. knows about insurance, billing, budgets, etc.
I'd highly recommend her to everyone in Boulder.

After going to a couple other eye doctors in Boulder and dealing with rude assistants, over-priced service and products, and seemingly cold and uncaring doctors, it has been a refreshing and comfortable experience dealing with Dr. Jenn. She is professional and also very caring about her patients. Prices also very reasonable.
