Cakes by Ron was the very first custom cake shop to open for business in Sarasota, FL, in 1986. Cakes by Ron is locally owned and operated by Ron Zammit, his son Nathan and his daughter Laura. Dedicated to his craft and meticulous in his work, Ron's passion is evident in the product that both he and his staff has created on a daily basis for 30+ years.
Cakes by Ron made MY parents' wedding cake when Ron was working out of his home. He made mine in 2009. Both cakes were very different but equally stunning. Best part was how delicious they were. We also got a groom's cake for the rehearsal- guitar with gators emblem on it. I know we will use them again and I have recommended them many, many times (some of our best friends also used them in 2009 for their wedding).

First off, as a customer, Cakes by Ron, provided some of the best customer service I have ever received. As I am out of town I had to communicate with them via email and phone, and not only were they so quick to reply, but they were so friendly and helpful. As for the cake, they took my request (which was just a general idea and simple pic for reference) and produced a cake that I couldn't have imagined. They delivered the cake to my mom for her 70th bday and it was delivered exactly when they said it would be and in perfect condition. My parents were amazed w the cake and on top of that, said

Cakes by Ron stepped in last minute to make my daughter a gluten free birthday cake for her 13th Birthday after another baker closed up shop without notifying customers who had orders in. Not only did Cakes by Ron deliver a gluten free cake but one that is absolutely gorgeous. Totally Nailed it! Thank you for saving the day.

We had Cakes by Ron do our wedding cake and desserts and we were very pleased with their service. Everything was as we had hoped for and our guests raved about all the desserts. We had mini cheesecakes, key lime pie, and chocolate cupcake in addition to our wedding cake. All desserts were good, but the cheesecake stood out amongst other things. Highly recommend cakes by Ron.

Cakes By Ron made our cupcakes for my first grandchild’s baby shower. Honestly, I’ve never seen cupcake’s as beautiful as these were. The detail was amazing, and the flavors were delicious. Our guests were amazed as well. I provided individual plastic cupcake holders so all guests could take one home. Thank you for making our day such a special one!

Cakes by Ron did our rehearsal dinner cupcakes as well as our wedding cake and it was all our guests could talk about! They were super helpful through the entire process and even let us borrow a cake stand for… the day of. Everything looked absolutely stunning and tasted even better! Definitely make sure to stop by on Wednesday for $2 cupcake day! We will be back for years to come and probably every Wednesday!

I ordered a cake here because we were having a girls weekend and even though it got canceled I decided to keep the cake order. I almost canceled and they were super accommodating. This is a super cute place and I came across them when I was planning my wedding too and I can see why they are popular. I loved that they also had cupcakes and cookies plus cake slices ready to go. I got a chocolate cake for my husband and he liked that the cake was rich and moist. My friend two some cookies to go as well and I bought a strawberry cookie to go which was super moist. We had flown down to Sarasota to tour wedding venues for our big day next year. The events coordinator for the venue referred us to use Cakes by Ron. We of course had to stop on the ride back to check out some cupcakes. The Boston Cream and Chocolate Truffle were the most flavorful, moist and enjoyable cupcakes we have ever had. I think we’re both more excited about ordering our wedding cake from Cakes by Ron than the wedding itself! 😂

This place is amazing!!! We have only gotten cupcakes multiple times so we haven't tried the cakes. Each time we got cupcakes they were super fresh with incredible taste and flavor - not all sugar or buttercream like most places. They have some really fun and delicious flavors. When in the area, stop by and pick up at least a half dozen - you won't regret it!!!

We had a cake tasting for my sister's wedding. They were totally unprepared. We waited about 20 minutes for him to bring us 5 cupcakes to taste that HE chose. He didn't present the options for cupcakes or the cake. There may have been something they had that we weren't aware of or hadn't tried that she would have loved but we'll never know bc of the very poor customer service. A wedding is an important event and should be treated as such, very disappointing.

Went to Cakes by Ron. Heard the cakes are great. Went to buy a sweet. Was a little disappointed. Thought there would be more selections besides just cupcakes. Got the impression that this is really just a company that bakes cakes. The cupcakes were OK. Just OK. But not what I went for. I think they should sell slices of the cakes they bake. Wow that would be nice. That would definitely let us taste the cakes and perhaps order some for our celebrations.

Best cupcakes around. What makes these stand out among the rest is that they are not overly sickening sweet, they are perfectly sweetened and the cake is incredibly moist without being dense. Frosting is also fluffy great complimentary flavors to the cake. Many have filling in the middle. Tried 9 different ones and all were better than the next. A few of my favorites include:
- rocky road (the hostess cupcake with nuts and marshmallows on top)
-triple chocolate: choc cake with choc buttercream and hardened dark choc on top
-lemon: lemon flavored cake with light frosting with lemon custard filling
