Alice Dodson Architect is a full-service architectural design firm with more than 30 years of experience. We are located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, in a rural studio just minutes from Asheville. Our work is mostly custom residential architecture, from "castles to cottages, " residential community and retreat center design.
When we go through the process of creating a new home or community, we carefully reevaluate and reinterpret the way you live. It is an intimate design process. Using sophisticated computer technology, we provide you with a 3D computer model of the site and the structure to aid in the visualization of our design.
You see, things are always created twice: first in the workshop of the mind and then, and only then, in reality. I call this process 'blueprinting' because anything you create in your outer world began as a simple blueprint in your inner world. More than 30 years of work experience has resulted in a wide variety of projects, featuring different types of constructions and design methods.
These homes perform with 60 to 75% energy savings compared to a standard construction home. If we incorporate alternative energy strategies-active solar, passive solar or geothermal sources-the efficiency can be even greater. Our research in building high-performance, non-toxic structures introduced us to several green building methods.

Alice Dodson completed a house design for us in April 2016. We consulted her after previously consulting 3 other architects and one non-architect house designer in the Asheville, NC area. We learned more in our first meeting with Alice about our proposed house plans and architecture and the building process than in all our previous consultations combined. We love the house she designed for us, and we recommend her highly.
Alice met every deadline she set for our project. She is extremely creative and meticulous, and it really shows in her work product. Her fees are fair and she is easy to talk
