In 1921, Italian immigrant Mariano Meconi founded The Meconi Wine Company in Ontario, Canada. After Prohibition's repeal, Mariano moved to Detroit with the business and renamed it the Italian Wine Company. In 1936 the name was changed again - this time to St. Julian Wine Co. This name change coincided with a move to our current location in Paw Paw, MI, which sits in Michigan's premier grape-growing region; The Lake Michigan Shore Appellation.
In 1921, our founder Mariano Meconi emigrated from Italy and started a winery in Windsor, Ontario. After Prohibition was repealed in 1933, he moved his business to Detroit, and then in 1936, moved to Paw Paw, MI, where we have operated ever since. Meconi's son, Gene, and son-in-law, Apollo succeeded him, and eventually, the controlling ownership of the company transitioned to the Braganini family in the 1980s.

My first time there was a very enjoyable experience. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The product was very good. I was a guest of my daughter and son-in-law for some wine tasting. I was so impressed that I joined the wine club and brought some wine home the same day. I highly recommend 👍👍🍷

We had a fantastic time tasting wine at St. Julian. Leanne was our tasting host and she was incredible- never stopped moving, was super knowledgeable about the wines, and was fun and upbeat. We signed up as wine members and stocked up on our favorite wines. Try the PB&J- so unique! Thanks for a great afternoon or fun.

I used to be a big fan of St Julian, but this last visit I was not impressed. The wines are categorized so that you can’t truly “sample” the ones you would like to try. You have to decide if you want to try the ciders, the semi-sweet, the in-betweens, etc. It’s $8 for samples and you don’t get to keep a sample glass anymore. No one explains anything about the wines, they just drop them off flight style in front of you and walk away. The bright side is they do still have some really good tasting wine.

Great stop on our wineries visit this weekend. Nathan took excellent care of us at the tasting room and was super pleasant. Very much enjoyed meeting him and having a conversation with this young man. The tasting area was clean and laid out well. Our favorite was the Blanc de blanc, but we tasted a bunch of really good wines. Make this one of your stops!
