Miles Family Law & Mediation
I am passionate about finding effective ways to help clients create solid beginnings and move through change fully informed and with heart. Of course, that looks different in each situation and with each person and family. As your mediator or attorney, I will carefully listen to your goals and, together with you, create an individualized plan.

The legal system can add a layer of stress and feel daunting. I will explain the legal process clearly, and keep you informed every step of the way, so that you can make the best possible decisions. I am honored to serve on the Board of Collaborative Practice San Francisco. I teach mediation through Community Boards, one of the nation's oldest community mediation organizations.
Services
Consensual dispute resolution methods such as mediation, collaborative practice, and "do it yourself" negotiation are not mutually exclusive. Finding the right process is an important step. I enjoy helping clients find the process that will serve them best. The goal of my practice is to help you make fully informed decisions and move forward with ease.
What is mediation? In mediation, you address your needs and concerns face-to-face, and, with the help of a mediator, move towards a solution that works for you both, and, if you have children, for your children. What does a mediator do? A mediator is a neutral guide who helps you both make good, solid, informed decisions.
Hiring an attorney does not need to be "all or nothing." Most of my clients take on part of the tasks of their case, and use me on an as-needed basis. This saves you money and gives you ownership over your case. I specialize in out-of-court resolution, also called Consensual Dispute Resolution. I help you reach agreements yourselves, without a judge intervening or telling you how to live your life.
In collaborative practice, each client has their own attorney. However, unlike in the traditional adversarial system, clients and attorneys use a team approach to find a solution that meets everyone's needs. This process requires buy-in and commitment from both clients and both attorneys to find out-of-court solutions, to exchange all relevant information freely, and to work collaboratively.
Premarital Agreements and Preregistration Agreements* have a bad reputation. These agreements are often seen as unromantic. Not so! Talking intentionally about how to live your financial lives together, having open and honest conversations about your hopes and values -- is the most romantic gift you can give each other, whether you end up creating a written agreement or not.
