While Exploring the St. John's River in early 1596, Don Pedro Menendez made the following notes into his diary: We found the third village of the savages on the West bank, halfway between a very big lake and a smaller one farther up stream on a likable spot in the shade of formidable trees. The river seems to be full of goodly fish, and the forest inhabited by all kinds of birds and beasts, the meat of which is quite tasty.

One side on the right as you enter is clean, neat and pleasant to see. As you get into the campground, just before the boat ramp it looks trashy and dirty. The restroom and showers were disgusting.

We had a camper about 3 yrs ago out there and it was our vacation home. It was awesome. We had to sell. We sure didn't won't to but something happened within our family.

Rent is affordable. No WiFi. Floods when it rains. Dumpster is always completely full and landlord is vocally angry about (installed camera's). Electric is high and campgrounds stuff is always breaking, sewer, electrical plugin ( outside) ect ...

I rented a lot for 3 months here. My only complaint is the restroom was not clean and the shower area was not sanitary at all. The manager, Brian, was very nice and helpful.

Older fish camp type campground. Nice, quiet, relaxed, comfortable place. It's about 4 miles off S.R. 40 by Ocala National Forest. Friendly people. Lots of space for fishing, free boat ramp for campers, bait shop. Also own Astor Marina & Campground right next door. Much prefer this over the bigger, fancier, more expensive campgrounds!

Powell's Campground sits on one of the most beautiful stretches of the St. Johns River in all of of Florida. The grounds are immaculate, the bait shop is well supplied and the caretaker was very friendly and helpful with boat launches. What a great way to spend the day fishing and boating from Powell's Campground and boat launch.
