Ascension Childcare

ACC offers high quality early childhood care and education in Shelburne, VT and has been serving the community for over 30 years. Currently we serve 52 families and 65 children ages six weeks to five years old. Since its inception the center has served more than 2,000 children. We are an active community partner in promoting awareness and opportunity for the field of early education.

Provide a safe and nurturing environment for a child so he/she is able to establish strong bonds and secure attachments with the important adults in his/her life. Develop the concept of Object Permanence (the idea that an object continues to exist when it is no longer in sight). Model verbal expression to children and encourage each child to express him or herself verbally with both sounds and the introduction of words.

The curriculum in the Toddler Room is meant to allow these budding individuals to experiment and learn using all of their senses. We also introduce the children to cooperative play which helps them to realize that they are part of a community. Each day we have two blocks of open play that are planned by observing the interests of the children.

Physical Development is supported with both fine and gross motor activities. Fine motor skills are supported through art work and manipulative toys such as puzzles, Legos, Tinker Toys, etc. Gross motor skills and coordination are supported with activities such as dancing, walking in the woods, ride-on-toys, and movement games.

ACC incorporates regular enrichment opportunities as part of our programming. While we do not regularly take field trips, we arrange for special opportunities to come to ACC. Our beautiful, nature-rich playground and the "back woods" behind the school allows for children to explore and learn about wild life, nature, and ecosystems.
