Suwanna Cafe is a family business operated. This restaurant started up with four members which are Poranan, and her three children which are Sitthida, Sutthida and Krongthum. The name Suwanna is our grandmother's name. She mean a lot to us so we name our first business to honor her spirit.
At first, we wanted to have just our own small business doing a small cafe, selling coffee and sandwiches then Poranan start to add the idea of summer rolls, panang curry, yellow curry, chicken satay, and soon enough our menu has grown bigger to become what we have to offer today. Most items on our menu are from our brainstorming what to make and how it should taste in our own style.

The food was ok, my green curry was nice and spicy BUT it was warm. I thought this was strange until I saw most everything is being microwaved. The food takes a long time to come out after you order even though it's made ahead of time. The women working there are very nice friendly and are constantly working to get the orders out.

So slooww... The line was a little slow to begin with, but should've known it was trouble when staff began loading two large cardboard boxes full of boxed food for two older ladies. (Apparently they were icing it to take on the ferry to Sitka- no joke). After waiting about 20 minutes my dad walked about to ask how much longer (all we ordered was a chicken satay and a chicken satay/pagang curry). They said they ran out of chicken, but that it would be another 20 minutes (almost like they had to run to the back and pluck the chicken themselves). After about 34 minutes total, we had decided

This is my favorite place in Juneau to get pad Thai. All though this time I went rouge and got the yellow curry with shrimp. Glad I went it this time!! The curry had just enough kick to be spicy but not over powering. They give you enough food not only for lunch but also a good snack before dinner or dinner itself.

Besides lacking in location, environment, and service, this place's food was incredibly subpar. How sad because I love Thai food and this is one of only 2 Thai places in Juneau. The panang is disgusting: thick and mostly syrup with hardly any meat. The rice was equally pathetic: overcooked and pushed together. The weird cabbage slaw was completely flavorless. Th pad thai wasn't bad but the spring rolls were ridiculously large, mediocre, and way overpriced. Skip it until they learn to cook better than anyone with a cookbook and American ingredients.

This was a great spot for lunch while on vacation in Juneau. It was within walking distance from our hotel (and a few others). The prices were reasonable (even by Alaska standards), and the food was full of flavor. We each got chicken pad thai, and I had the panang, and both were delicious. We got Thai iced tea and Thai iced green tea to drink, and both were great. The wait for the food was a little long, and there is no atmosphere (it's in the middle of an office building) but the food was perfect for what we wanted to get.

It is pretty hidden, but they do a great job for the size of the "restaurant". It feels more like an indoor food cart, although they did remodel the kitchen not too long ago and added more seating.
The pad thai is different than Chan's in Auk Bay, but this dish varies a lot, so I don't know if that comparison is valid. They are simply different.

Finally, a decent Thai eatery in Juneau, located behind Breeze-In in Jordon Creek Mall, first floor by the escalator. They have delicious yellow curry, pad thai was alright. The day I visited they have Thai roast duck for USD 12, there wasn't that was much duck, deboned along with alot of rice. Open weekdays for lunch. Lmited menu, limited seating, wifi available. Worthy of a visit. Open weekdays Mon-Wed 10:30am-3pm, Thur-Fri 10:30am-6pm, credit cards accepted.
