My kids have been taking lessons at this academy for about 8 months now and I have been very pleased with our experience so far. My kids love their classes and their teacher, Mr. Nathan Perry. They would choose to go to a class every day if they could. We recently decided to take advantage of one of their Parent's Night Out events and my children wanted to know if their teacher would be there. I witnessed Mr. Perry handling a difficult situation after class one day and was impressed with the way he maintained his composure and grace. He carried himself with much dignity and I commend him for that

We had a truly horrendous experience with Master Lockman's Academy. Assistant Manager Nathan Perry was horribly late for class and during this time the class bully (we know other children in the class who have confirmed this) started harassing my son about wearing the incorrect uniform. Myself and another adult present tried to defuse the situation and said that it did not really matter what anyone wore but the bully (who is older and much taller) continued to harass, shout and demean my son until he finally ended up hitting him. Our experience with Master Lockman’s Black Belt Academy (MLBBA) actually began with United Learning Academy in Ann Arbor several years ago. Over several weeks, my son observed Mr. Lockman’s martial arts class at ULA, which sparked his interest. He eventually joined the class and shortly thereafter embarked on a journey with MLBBA in Ypsilanti.
The students are taught in Kaizen karate, whose approach to training is not only on instruction but also to educate students in character improvement to be used in their everyday lives. MLBBA makes it a priority.

My daughter started out with Black Belt Academy classes at Keystone Academy in the 1st grade. Now she's a member of the Black Belt Club and getting ready to test for her blue belt (now in 2nd grade). She loves to go to class as much as possible. She's started leading warm up classes and gaining confidence. I think it's a great program and money well spent.

Our daughter had taken classes at our Homeschool network offered by Black Belt Academy for several years prior to us enrolling both our girls in classes at the studio. They have both enjoyed their experience and have gained confidence and foundational skills to grow on. Great instructors and many classes to choose from to fit our schedule. Although we haven't been able to participate in many of the extracurricular activities like game/movie nights, parents night out, etc. Those are nice extras that we will enjoy in the future.

My daughter has been attending about a year and she loves it. It has been beneficial physically and mentally She tends to be a little on the shy side but since attending has gained focus and self confidence. The instructors are great and work so well with all of the students during class and provide feedback after every class. I would highly recommend Master Lockman’s Black Belt Academy for anyone interested in martial arts

Blackbelt academy is a great place for anyone wanting to learn karate. Any skill level is taught - kids and adults of all ages. The instructors take lots of time to be sure you are learning your patterns and advancing, while having fun. Discipline and self esteem are key components, as well as teaching kids how to defend and work together. This place is the best!!
