Hill, Carmichael
Jim joined Carmichael Hill in 1993 and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER practitioner, Chief Compliance Officer and sole owner of Carmichael Hill. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor's degree in Accounting. At the time, Carmichael Hill was a Registered Investment Advisor for high net worth individuals and a Third-Party Administrator for small business retirement plans.

During the first few years Jim earned his stripes learning about investments, retirement planning, insurance, estate planning and the ten thousand other challenges involved in working in a small business (there were just two people then). In the late 1990's, Carmichael Hill spun off its retirement plan business and Jim became a partner.
Services
Because we specialize in mapping the retirement journey, we understand what it looks like to embark on a path that feels unknown - and we've built that into how we work with our clients. As a fiduciary, our services are always fee-only. Retirement Planning Starts While You're Still Working - and Continues After the Transition.
As a Registered Investment Advisor*, Carmichael Hill has a fiduciary responsibility for our clients' assets that we manage. That means that we are bound by law to act in our clients' interest and not our own. Stockbrokers and insurance agents are not fiduciaries unless they are also registered investment advisors and acting in an advisory capacity.
We begin with a brief call to get to know you and ensure we're a good fit to partner with you. We collect all of the relevant information needed to complete a retirement evaluation and clarify your goals desires. You may not want to make big changes immediately, that's ok! We'll ask you to think about it and will circle back later with an offer to help.

Report
If you happen to be looking for an investment adviser, we can give some advice that can save you aggravation - and money.

Permit us to share the dreadful experiences we had with the firm of Carmichael Hill & Associates in Gaithersburg, Md. We foolishly hired them to manage our savings. While it's true the Dow dropped 5.6% in 2018, our investments managed by Carmichael that year plummeted more than 7%.

But that's not the worst of it. Consider their track record with us: They recommended some 50 investments in the short time we permitted them to manage our money. 41 were losers!
