The 40th Street Theatre
The 40th Street Theatre was originally built in the early 1900's as a Vaudeville house named the Hamilton Street Theatre. It later changed hands, was upgraded to allow film and was renamed the Winn Theatre before it again changed hands and was renamed the 40th Street Theatre. The theatre closed down in the mid 1950's and the building was purchased by Martin's Bakery which utilized the space for the bakery's needs.

We purchased the property a few years ago for the purpose of expanding Hargiss Stringed Instruments. As we started to make the necessary repairs to the buildings it became clear that an old theatre was hiding and so we decided to restore the building back to what it had been. Using 90% recycled or used materials it took us a few years to restore the theatre back to what it once was.
Services
You will have access to the main theatre, a catering room and the outdoor courtyard. An additional room for extra seating and a bridal suite/ dressing room may be rented if necessary. The 40th Street Theatre allows an outside licensed caterer to provide food for your event. All alcohol must be purchased through the 40th Street Theatre.
When we purchased the buildings they had been mostly vacant for a number of years. We discovered cats and bats taking advantage of the quiet indoors. The bats chose to leave of their own accord, but we discovered that there was a pretty large feral cat population that was only getting bigger every year.

I went to a burlesque show at the 40th St. theatre the other night and as a venue it still stands out in my mind. It's very charming and I believe over 100 years old. There are lots of little touches here and there that are very unique and a nod to the past. I love the creaky wood floors and they've done an excellent job of keeping as much of the original architecture and building intact. You definitely feel like you're stepping into a bygone era.

They had a full bar and very decent drink prices. I would definitely rent out this venue if I needed a space in the future.

The theatre is absolutely beautiful!! Had my wedding here and so many guests told me it was the most beautiful wedding they’ve ever seen. Gorgeous venue, spacious, and the owners are very accommodating and incredibly helpful. Couldn’t have picked a better venue honestly!

If you're into eclectic, unique, one-of-a-kind places (like I am), this venue gets 5 stars for atmosphere, decor and spaces. Depending upon your event, there are a couple of areas to choose from, and the outdoor space is simply beautiful.

What made this review a 3 instead of a 5 is two things:
1) Parking. It's on-street and not plentiful near the venue. When I attended, I did a terrible thing (because I got so frustrated with driving around the blocks for parking); I parked on the sidewalk. Not the best choice, I admit. Now I know to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of
