Dr. Dan Holsteen, DDS is a 1977 graduate of Louisiana State University and a 1982 graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. Following his dental training in Kansas City, he completed a hospital residency program with the Veteran's Administration in Topeka, Kansas, before moving to Colorado Springs to set up private practice.
When he's not in the office, Dr. Holsteen Dr. Dan can be found riding his motorcycle, fishing, skiing the steep stuff, or searching high and low for the best barbeque, Mexican food and blues guitar music around. Paula, our chairside assistant, is the extra pair of hands and eyes and ears that help Dr. Holsteen to take such good care of our patients.

Tooth loss can happen for a variety of reasons, from decay to disease to injury. No matter the cause of tooth loss, it's important to fill in the gap to restore normal chewing function. One option is a dental bridge. The bridge replaces missing teeth with pontics (fake teeth) and is supported by attaching to the natural teeth or implants on either side of the gap.
The top two reasons adults lose teeth are cavities and gum disease, which is why, on top of a good dental hygiene routine, regular professional cleaning appointments are so crucial. Even the best daily brushing and flossing won't get every bit of plaque between teeth and along the gum lines, and that plaque eventually hardens into tartar.
One of the most common procedures here at Mountain Shadows Family Dentistry is placing a crown. Dr. Holsteen will place crowns to help out with many different dental health problems. Crowns are made from different types of material. Early in dentistry crowns were made from metals and stainless steal.
Dental sealants are an effective preventative measure against cavities and tooth decay that we offer here at Mountain Shadows Family Dentistry. They coat the small indentations in your teeth, forming a protective layer against plaque and decay. Sealants have been shown to reduce cavities by up to 80 percent and can last up to 10 years.

Dr. Holsteen and his crew have changed my dental experience and I’m 40! He’s great to converse with and his work is careful and detailed. Over the last year I had a cleaning, fillings redone, a cap removed and a bridge put on. I have come to fully trust my oral care with this whole crew. The office is family tight and ran beautiful. The dentist is the generally the only service that I pay hundreds of dollars for and feel worse afterwards. This is a good dental office. Clean, staff is kind, everything is explained. I did not feel rushed. Get there early, you won't have to wait in the office because the appointments are scheduled correctly.

Dr. Rivard did a filling on my tooth #2 in Nov. I had toothache 6-month later. He did a deep cleaning on the tooth #2. It was my first time for deep cleaning ( I had pretty health teeth) . He didn't explain anything but started with drilling my teeth. It's so deep I could smell the burnt.
Within a month of the deep cleaning, the tooth #2 was broken in the middle. I had to have tooth extraction.
Within 7 months, I lost my tooth #2. I would recommend everyone to stay away from Dr. Clint Rivard.

I had a mix of experience with this practice. They were great nice people and treated my kids well. However, Robbin and I had discussed the various possibilities with the insurances that we carry. There were some concerns that the insurance may not be the best fit for this practice. I asked that Robin do a pre assessment and send it to the insurance and depending on if it goes over our budget that I would seek out another dentist that is covered by our insurance. Robin set the appointments and my family was assessed. At the end of the assessment, Robin set an appointment with my wife for a return

My family have been seeing dr. Holstein for over 20years! WE LOVE HIM and all of the staff. My 3 sons grew up going to Dr. Holstein- from their first 'Happy Visits" as toddlers up through braces and now college! Dr. Holstein even came in on a Saturday to help glue my son's broken tooth after a air soft gun incident. We have always received wonderful care and advice regarding our dental care. After having been less than happy through the years with dental practices in several different cities, we lucked out when we moved here in the early '80 's and came here on a friend's recommendation. Dr. Holsteen and his great staff are all wonderful, knowledeable, and caring. Wouldn't think of going anywhere else, and everyone that we've sent here has been just as delighted.

I had an extraction a few months ago at Dr. Holsteen's dentistry. That was by far the most pleasant (I am not saying extraction is of any fun) experience I have ever had with dental. The stuff were very friendly and warm. Dr. Holsteen was patient enough to explain all I need to know about the surgery. Making an appointment was easy. He called me the same day evening about the bleeding I had. I recommended my wife to this dentistry for her cavities and she loves it, too.
