Kansas City, Missouri - The American Royal is pleased to announce the results of the 5th Annual American Royal Steak Contest. Congratulations to Neuner Farms, winner of 6th place in the Grain Fed Beef category. The assembled judges evaluated 40 steak entries submitted from 16 states. This year's contest was the largest in its history with nearly double the number of entries than in 2015.

Steaks were judged in a blind taste test based 60% on Flavor (Overall 30%, Sustained 15%, and Finish 15%) and 40% on Texture (Juiciness 20% - 10% Initial, 10% Sustained, and Tenderness 20%). Entries were submitted from two categories, Grain Fed Beef and Grass Fed Beef.

In the early 19th century Germany was not a unified state, but rather a confederation of many small provinces. Germany's lands provided a constant battlefield for its warring superpower neighbors. In the 1830's, weary from centuries of political and religious unrest, a small group of artisans and farmers from the province of Westfalen immigrated to the New World.
Nestled in the rolling hills of central Missouri lies the town of Westphalia, the "Pearl of Osage County." Settled in the 1830's, the forested hillsides reminded the German immigrants of their native province of Westfalen in the River Valley. The tranquil Maries River ribbons through the Westphalia area past limestone bluffs, lush farmland, and picturesque vineyards.
I had a sample of your cab franc several years ago at the Mo wine fest in E. Springs. It was the BEST Mo red I ever had! I cannot find anyone that carries it in KC. I would like to order some. I assume you carry different vintages at different prices. Can you send me some info on your superb cab franc at this address so I couold order some from the winery or give me directions to get to you.
My father-in-law, Innocence Hilkemeyer, was born and raised in Westphalia. In the evenings, Inno would crank up the record player, listen to Gershwin, and sip an evening cocktail while tomato sauce bubbled happily on the stove. I think he would have enjoyed our Vignoles, with its sweet grapefruit and tangerine flavors balanced with just enough bite.
Missouri Riesling was considered nearly extinct after virtually all vines were destroyed in 1919 at the onset of Prohibition. Westphalia Vineyards rediscovered a single vine, planted in 1890, at the National Agricultural Experimentation Center at Cornell University. In 2005 we started with 5 cuttings and have propagated this varietal to now over 500 healthy vines.

Atmosphere and people were great. Wine selection was not to my taste. I love sweet wine and they didn't have a sweet option. All of the wines I tasted were ok, but again not my preference. If you like a wide variety of dryer wine this maybe the place for you.

Westphalia Vineyards is a beautiful place owned by hard working, honest people! The Norton is the best wine I've ever tasted! Different from anything I've ever had, it's always a pleasure and a surprise to sip the Norton.
