I'm a licensed psychologist in Boulder, Colorado and I work with adults and adolescents, couples and families. I started in private practice in 1980. In addition, I worked at the University of Colorado, Boulder from 1991 through 2016 doing research on the best ways to treat mood disorders in adults, adolescents, and children.
This work has taught me a lot about working with people with depression and bipolar disorder, whether individually or in the context of family therapy. Currently, another big interest of mine is Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. I hope this website will allow you to get to know me a bit.

Services
My first permanent job after moving to Boulder in 1979 was with Boulder Mental Health Center. I worked at the MHC for 6 years and received excellent on-the-job training in working with people with severe mental illness.
These years provided a view of the extreme in the range of human behavior, taught me the medical model and the importance of medication in treating certain symptoms, and impressed upon me the value of supportive services in addition to psychotherapy.I am happy to see people in my practice who suffer from major mental illness when outpatient psychotherapy is all that's needed.

Practical: I tend to focus on solving problems rather than talking about why a problem exists. I like cognitive therapy (changing the way you think about yourself, others or the world) and behavioral techniques (practicing new behaviors, interrupting maladaptive patterns) because they're straightforward and they work.

Not very understanding and I wasted my time. Very much a legal pad writer of every action, or comment that I made during my discussions. Kind of strange, very analytical and judging that she is annoyed when I phone. No longer returns voice mails. Waste of benefits money. Advocate of the Mental Health Partner Center, and I want NOTHING to do there. Crazy, crazy nuts! Will add though, I got down to dirt survival or no cash flow and she did slide scale fee with free phone consult, 30 min. to hear me out. Better off to work out somewhere or take a long walk in the fresh air. Did get me out of a bind
