The Chippewa Flowage was created in 1923. The damming of the Chippewa River joined the waters of 11 natural lakes, 9 rivers and countless streams. It is composed of over 15,000 acres of water with more than 140 islands. There are in excess of 200 miles of primarily wild shoreline which will never be more than 15% developed.

At the waters edge you may see deer, bear, herons, otters, eagles, beavers and even elk. The Chippewa Flowage provides a unique Northwoods fishery with a wide variety of species. Walleye, northern pike, large and small mouth bass, crappie, bluegill and perch are abundant. What's more, is the Chippewa Flowage also has a world-class musky fishery, in addition to being the Home of the World Record Musky!

In the winter on the Chippewa flowage the daylight hours are short, many days of cloud over and turbulent weather fronts, and only the moon phases providing relief from the many hours of darkness. Stars in the darkness on frigid clear sky nights are an array of diamonds-seemingly within finger tip reach only to be recognized as being as far away as infinity.
There are a number of snowmobile trails on public and private lands near the Flowage, some trailscross the Flowage on the ice. There are ATV trails on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest property near the Flowage. Please ride responsively and respect the property and rights of all landowners.

Snowmobiles and ATVs are allowed on the ice of the Flowage, however, before venturing out ontothe ice make sure conditions are safe and you know where you are going.Some areas are hazardous throughout the winter because currents under the ice and Fluctuating water levels can create unevenice conditions.
If someone is actively camping on an island already, move on. Don't forget to keep your voices and music turned down; remember the unique acoustics of the lake. Be sure to take whatever you bring back with you. Never dump anything into the lake. Put litter in its proper place. Finally, don't destroy nature.
Lake Chippewa Flowage, Wisconsin's third-largest lake, is preserved in her pristine wilderness state for you and all future generations to enjoy. Chippewa Flowage Fishing is some of the finest in the mid-west, The Chippewa Flowage is a world-class fishery in a wilderness-like setting.

It is home to the world-record muskellunge- a 69-pound, 11-ounce monster caught by Louis Spray in 1949 and upheld by the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame as one of the most well-documented world record fish of all time.Walleye, black crappie, muskellunge, and bluegill are the most popular species among Flowage anglers today.
