Client-Patient Director Cynthia McAlpin has worked with clients and their pets at Starkville Veterinary Hospital since 2003. Her responsibilities include discharging patients, sending reminders, conducting follow-ups and checking in patients. She loves working hands-on with pets. When she's not at the hospital, Cindy enjoys cooking with friends, decorating, gardening and spending time with her pets.
At Starkville Veterinary Hospital, we understand that cancer is a word no pet owner wants to hear in connection with his or her beloved pet's health. However, cancer is a diagnosis that seems to have become almost commonplace in today's society, affecting humans as well as our canine and feline companions.
Dental care is more than just preventing bad breath. Periodontal disease is one of the most common-and most preventable-diseases your pet may encounter. If left untreated, plaque and tartar buildup can lead to reddened and bleeding gums, loose teeth and other problems. Bacteria in the mouth can enter the bloodstream and potentially damage the liver, kidneys and other organs.
Believe it or not, people aren't the only ones who suffer from allergies. Dogs and cats can be just as miserable as their owners although they are more likely to display allergic reactions through itching, scratching, biting, licking, hair loss, scabs, or dandruff. At Starkville Veterinary Hospital, skin issues and allergic reactions are one of the more common conditions that we see on a regular basis.

Doctor Shy is an awesome vet. Just had a VERY serious problem with my new dog and he was there every step of the way. There is also a young lady (Lexi) there that is VERY special. Her loving and caring for animals is unbelievable. She loved my Shank a Labrador Retriever from the first time they met. As to the rest of the staff there Dr. Shy is very lucky to have them all. A fantastic group of people.

Dr. Shy and staff were absolutely outstanding! When my cat needed a slight emergency procedure done I was able to bring her in as a first time patient. Allie was so sweet on the phone and reassuring. Dr. Shy kept me updated throughout the day. I could tell my elderly cat was loved on and taken care of while she was at Starkville Veterinary Hospital. They have gained a new patient, and I will definitely recommend them to all of my friends with pets!!

Update: I have had positive experiences boarding my dog here for short periods. The front desk staff is friendly. From calling around, prices for vet care are just higher here in MS.
We recently moved to the area and I went here because of all the good reviews on google. I was disappointed. My dog was skittish and anxious to leave the entire time even though he loved our last vets office. Something must have smelled off to him. Then the assistant walked in and stuck my dog with vaccinations with no explanation to me beforehand. He was given unnecessary shots even though I had proof his shots were
