Stew Epstein and Jeffrey Fiegel met, not entirely unpredictably if you know them, at a wine bar while Stew was behind the bar pouring a bottle of a Tempranillo he had made. He was pleasantly surprised when a couple of the customers at the bar seemed unusually knowledgeable about wine and winemaking and spent the rest of the evening discussing winemaking philosophy (Stew is a bit of wine geek).

Stew promptly forgot the encounter until about two weeks later when he got an email from Jeffrey asking to pick his brain on Spanish wines over a cup of coffee. Stew replied, "sure, why not?"It turned out that Jeffrey was studying winemaking at Fresno State and shared our winemaker's passion for Spanish and Iberian wines and by the end of the 1st latte, Stew brought him aboard as a winery intern.

Wandered here yesterday for a late afternoon tasting after having previous passed waiting for a table at Original Pattern. The winery is cute, with a few outdoor tables set up outside. We opted for the tasting ($20pp) so we could try a bunch of the wine and find our new favorites!

The tasting came with 4 wines - a rose and 3 different reds, all of which were labeled, and we were given separate tasting glass as well. Honestly, everything exceeded all of my expectations. The rose was so delicious and light and crisp - I am not normally a rose fan, but struggled not to gulp this down and leave with

Went here awhile back when visiting a friend who lives near this "winery". The ambience was a bit sterile and not very warm or welcoming like I would have preferred and the seating wasn't very comfortable. Came here to catch up with my friend but the person who handles the wine tasting just talked incessantly (seems like other reviewers share a similar sentiment). Overall the wine was decent but seemed a bit overpriced for the quality. Definitely better places to get drinks in the Jack London neighborhood.

Want to buy local and drink award winning wine in a friendly ambiance? Want to bring your dog? Brooklyn West is it! There are many wineries to choose from in Oakland and I think that this is THE BEST.

Their reds are amazing, the rose is divine and the port (yes, the port!!) is to die for. I never liked port and I'm a total convert.

I'm a wine club member and can highly recommend it. I would give this place 10 stars if I could!!

I really enjoy visiting Brooklyn West and tasting their wines. The tasting room is in the Jack London Square area of Oakland (part of the Oakland Urban Wine Trail). The staff are all very knowledgable and friendly. Stew and Jeff, the wine makers, have fantastic knowledge of wines and production (Stew has amazing knowledge of ports and dessert wines). One of them is always in the tasting room. I enjoy all of their wines, from their Sauvignon Blancs and Chardonnays, to their Tempranillos, Cabernets, and Zinfandels. They also make a couple of great dessert wines that are very yummy. I highly recommend

This is a great tasting room that is dog friendly with excellent staff. We sampled the 5 wines on their tasting menu ($25 with the reserve, $20waived with one bottle purchase). The Sauvignon Blanc was incredibly clear, crisp, and bright. The rose was on the sweet side, a bit too much for my taste. The Tempranillo is one of their specialties, a medium bodied red with a peppery finish. Their Pinot and Zinfandel are also solid. The dessert wines are the winemaker's specialty. We asked for a a dessert wine tasting and they had some bottles open. The Aria and Port were fantastic dessert wines,

Recently Co-Hosted a Baby Shower here and rented the space as a private event. What a gorgeous, fun interior and it easily accommodated the 50 of us. Great vibe and added bonus was opening the huge window to the street to let the sun in. Owners were very easy to work with and can't wait to host another event here.

Bright and clean tasting room that is dog-friendly! Their winery dog is so loving and hospitable. We stopped by on a Saturday evening one hour before close and were immediately greeted by their winemaker and ex-Cal History professor. He told us about their $20 tasting of 5 wines (waived with a bottle purchase) and wine club. He was wonderfully informative and we quite enjoyed him as a host.

My husband and I shared a tasting and enjoyed most of their wines (with the Sauvignon blanc being our favorite). For $20 I would have to say the pours were really small. We did end up going home with a bottle

I and some friends stopped by here to relax and try some wines. We found ourselves being over-educated by Stew, the winemaker. We were unable to even attempt to enjoy anything he poured as he talked so much it became so uncomfortable we made our visit as quick as possible and departed. It was more like a forced class to learn about wine told by a very talkative Stew who may have some knowledge but does not know when to stop talking and let a person breathe. The wine was just ok as well, and not worth the price. I have enjoyed better wine from a store or bar. Nothing we tasted was worthy of recommendation

We can’t say enough about Stu and the rest of the team at Brooklyn West. A fantastic atmosphere, great customer service, and some of the best wines you’ll ever taste. After just a few minutes chatting with staff, it became clear that an unbelievable amount of care and attention goes into every bottle they make. These folks truly care about their craft and it shows in what you taste in your glass. If you’re a wine lover, this is a place not to be missed.

The good thing about a wine bar where you can bring your own snacks is that you can try more pairing combinations at your leisure. The bad thing is that if you're like us you end up wanting to buy more than one bottle of everything you've tried.

We had happened upon a great deal on some Brillat-Savarin triple creme and prosciutto at a little deli on the way. Some meat, some cheese, some crackers and we were ready to enjoy whatever came our way that weekend afternoon.

We tasted everything the hostess was pouring and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and our pairing conversation. We had questions

Outstanding wine and great service! I've been to literally hundreds of wineries around the world and this is the kind of tasting room that people dream about. Super knowledgeable staff, friendly environment (super dog friendly too!) and delicious wine (parking is relatively easy as well). Try the pinot noir and the reserve pinot noir side by side... They were produced in exactly the same way, harvested on the same day and aged exactly the same barrels. The only difference is the soil they were grown in. It's astounding and will give you a new appreciation for the difference dirt can make in wine

Came visiting from out of state with a group of friends and was very disappointed by the staff and the hospitality. When asked for a tasting for my girlfriend and I to share they refused to serve us without charging us 2 tasting fees for 20 a person for 4 wines. If you are haven't been to this winery and are looking for awesome wines, stay away from here or you will be treated with disrespect as a customer.

I appreciate the dog friendly environment the most. There are a couple of areas to sit depending on your desire, a little sofa with chairs, or you can belly up to the bar or select a more standard table. The tasting choices scan about four whites and four reds with about four more premiums wines that cost extra. The staff seem to share the open bottles and I thought the pours themselves were scant. They appear to source their grapes from a variety of places in the southern part of the state and can speak well of the individual terroirs and the intent of sourcing from each. None of wines tickled

We went to BW a while back and I can't believe I haven't reviewed. I was reminded tonight when I popped a 2009 Cab Franc we got when we were there. Stew was very knowledgeable and enjoyed talking about wine which we also enjoy. Beautiful tasting room and we really enjoyed the wine!

Oh. The '09 CF? Superb. Should have bought more!

Came here with a few girlfriends after a birthday brunch over at Jack London Square. I think we should have just gone to a bar instead since we really just wanted to have some more time to catch up together ... instead with every pour was an explanation of the history of the wine, the winemaker, the grapes, the terroir, the brand. To be fair, I was less in wine tasting mode but also felt like staff couldn't break script - friendly and knowledgeable, but couldn't read the audience. It wasn't as if the place was crowded and they wanted to move us thru quickly.

The wine itself wasn

Brooklyn West is a premier urban winery along Oakland's Urban Wine Trail. It is located in an awesome historical building. Stu and Jeff, winemaker and owners, are friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. The wine, however, is the star of the show! A great selection of whites and reds that are delicious up and down the menu.

Brooklyn West Winery is one of four major stops along Oakland's Wine Walk alongside Urban Legend, Dasche, and Rosenblum Cellars, all of which are all thriving in the Jack London Waterfront area of Oakland. Brooklyn West was founded by two partners, who for twenty years had a passion for creating their own Spanish wine, and dreamed of having their own winery in an urban setting. They succeeded on both fronts. The winery is actually named after the owners hometown of Brooklyn, New York and their relocation to the western half of the country, but also the fact that this area of Oakland that Brooklyn

Interested in wine tasting near the lovely Jack London Square? Well, look no further because Brooklyn West Winery is the place for you!

Snuggled in between the corner of 3rd and Jackson, Brooklyn West offers a lovely modest and enjoyable tasting lounge! My Meet-up group decided to make this the last stop in the area, and I'm so happy we did! The tasting lounge is in a historic brick building, and perfect to lounge around all day, enjoying some tasting wine.

Had a reallllllly nice tasting here this weekend, and I'm not even much of a wino! The one stars here are really insane.

The wines are full of aromatic scents and depth, but the service and the environment is anything but snooty. Inside its fresh and airy, a modern feel which I'm not always a fan of - but I love the seats at the tables - the other fat bottomed girls will know what i mean...

I will say that I was all about lounging on the one couch thats available in the space, but was told it's not available for tastings. I think you should get rid of a couch if you dont want people

Wow,I am surprised to read some of these reviews below. My bf and I live in the neighborhood and we go to Brooklyn West frequently. We've always enjoyed the atmosphere and the wines. And the staff, winemaker, and service have always been wonderful. Not only are the staff incredibly sweet to our dogs, we end up meeting so many nice dog lovers in the area giving our pups love. Oh and the wine is great. It's a neighborhood gem!

Location - Strategically located and within walking proximity of popular restaurants (like Chop Bar, etc.) and Jack London Square.

Interior - Still under construction but enough tables and chairs to have an intimate wine tasting.

Wine tasting - $12 per person, which is waved if you become a wine club member.

2012 Chardonnay - Crisp, buttery, and light. This is the only Chardonnay I would ever buy.

2012 Rockridge - My favorite out of the entire tasting. My boyfriend does not like wine, and we asked for multiple bottles of this flavor. It was an excellent red blend that would enrich any dinner
