The outreach of NJLERC has been felt worldwide, from Malawi Africa to Haiti and many more places. View our Gallery to see how the generosity of others has helped so many in need. Among other missions around the world, the center continually sponsors missions to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, organizing participation from optometrists and other medical professionals.

All types of used eyeglasses and sunglasses, prescription and non prescription, for children and adults are accepted, including exceptionally strong or weak prescriptions. There is a tremendous need for recycled glasses throughout the world. Each year, individuals donate approximately seven million pairs of glasses to their Lions Clubs International Eyeglass Recycling Centers.
Services
The NJLERC just finished our best year of service. During this same period, NJLERC collected 1,018,525 pair of donated eyeglasses for processing to needy individuals throughout the world. Also, since we began keeping records back in 1997-1998, NJLERC has collected approximately 10,883,203 pair of eyeglasses and distributed 1,256,335 pair of eyeglasses.
The New Jersey Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center is proud to be one of busiest of those centers. In the 2016-17 fiscal year, we collected and processed an estimated 1,015,572 pairs of eyeglasses and forwarded 73,928 pairs of eyeglasses to 50 mission groups. Those groups traveled to 22 countries to give the gift of sight to about 61,120 visually impaired people.
The New Jersey Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center depends on donations from individuals and Lions Clubs and Charitable Foundations to keep its operations going.

While a small handling fee for non-Lion groups and shipping costs are expected to be paid by the requesting organization, the New Jersey Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center still has many non-reimbursed costs such as eyeglass cleaning and storage materials, lens reading and cleaning equipment, processed eyeglass storage containers, insurance, eyeglass van transportation maintenance, and the like.
The Eyes for Malawi was our first ever eye-care medical mission event that you were a great part in making happen. We were able to correct vision in four different cities. We were able to distribute over 870 pairs of glasses. Many people were able to see for the first time in decades. It was truly gratifying to see their great smile when they cold finally see.
To donate glasses, drop them off at a local Lions club or a Lions club collection box in your community. All types of used eyeglasses and sunglasses, prescription and non-prescription, for children and adults are accepted, including exceptionally strong or weak prescriptions. Reading glasses are also useful for those who perform close-up tasks while at work.
