The story of Cornell starts in 1946 when 5 people working at Pacific Pump Company decided to head out on their own. Having a complete service department, they became familiar with what most of the common pump failures were. Many motor failures came from pressure spikes during operation, overloading capacity and water related failures of the pump end motor bearings.
A large tomato grower in Central California was having issues with pumps that were being run unattended. Without someone there to watch the pumps continuously, they run into operational problems. The fleet of several dozen pumps would see intermittent cavitation, causing pump damage. Bearing failures were another issue.
Pump Flo is an online and desktop pump selection software that allows users to input conditions and compare pumps on operating efficiency, impeller trim, NPSHR, flow, HP, and other characteristics. Offered to Cornell distributors, end-users, and potential customers, the software can be used to across single pumps, pumps in series, or in fully manually selections.
