Services
Developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 20th century, Pilates is a system of comprehensive, whole-body exercises that emphasize breath, concentration, center, control, precision and flow. Each of the more than 500 low impact, flowing movements that make up the Pilates tenet, promotes mental focus to achieve proper breathing, correct postural alignment and smooth execution of the exercise.
The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM is a modality of movement that encourages gentle yet effective movement, stimulating, stretching and strengthening muscles and tendons. By utilizing a system of pulleys, counterweights and springs, GYROTONIC machines provide constant and smooth resistance while guiding your body through the proper movement, and each exercise is optimized through corresponding breathing patterns.
GYROKINESIS exercises work joints, muscles and organs throughout the entire body via the seven natural elements of spinal and pelvic movement: forward, backward, left side, right side, left twist, right twist and circular. Individuals use mats and low stools to move smoothly from one pose to the next, never holding a single posture for more than a few seconds at a time.
These plans, which are based on the individual client's needs and capacity, may involve Pilates classes, GYROTONIC classes, GYROKINESIS classes, reflexology or a combination of the above. These protocols often complement physical therapy, chiropractic medicine and other treatments that the client is receiving from an outside practitioner.
Please call to schedule your class or session. We do not use any online booking system. All services are payable in advance or at the time of session. Studio sessions may be purchased as single appointments or as discounted session cards. These cards are available in 5 or 10 session amounts and can be purchased for private, semi-private or group class cards.

I absolutely loved working with Maureen at Asheville Pilates. During my time working with her she brought a completely new take to my pilates practice. I felt in the time I was working with her my posture and strength improved dramatically. I had some schedule changes and she was very understanding. I highly recommend her studio to anyone looking for a great pilates teacher in the Asheville NC area.

Love this studio! I've been a studying Pilates with Instructor, Hope Wolfe for almost 2 years and can't thank her enough for the wonderful lessons. Owner and Instructor, Maureen Sher has created a lovely space and environment to learn and grow. Highly recommend this studio for anyone looking to get away from the gym life, but still wanting a health lifestyle habit.

I was new in town and found a Pilates studio not too far from my house. It just wasn’t a good fit for me. When I walked into Asheville Pilates, I knew I was home. That was almost three years ago. I immediately felt comfortable in my surroundings and soon learned how incredibly knowledgeable and deeply caring Maureen Sher (owner) is with her clients.

I have been working with Maureen for about three years and I have seen great improvement in my strength, flexibility, balance and posture. I eagerly look forward to my weekly individual session at Asheville Pilates. Maureen assesses each person and begins working with what that body presents to her. Her warm and caring approach enhances the whole experience. We use all of the equipment and several styles of exercise in a nice mix to keep things interesting and challenging. I especially like the results from the Gyrotonic modality. The gentle yet effective movement stretches and strengthens muscles

I have been a steady client of Asheville Pilates since I moved to Asheville a decade ago. As a professional dancer I began training in Pilates in NY in 1975 with Romana Kryzanowska and over the years it has always helped me recover from injuries. When doctors told me I would be in a wheelchair in nine years due to a rare rheumatoid arthritis I began working with Maureen Sher, and Hope Wolfe. The studio offers the highest quality of Pilates with a special mix of healing energy. If you are looking for a special studio that really knows what they are doing try Asheville Pilates.
