Services
The history of Hart's Mortuary and Cremation Center in many ways reflects the history of our city, founded in 1823. In 1899, with the population growing rapidly, Jesse B. Hart, a successful Macon entrepreneur with several business interests already established, joined his friend, C.M. Branan, to buy out a local undertaking firm owned by Dennis A. Keating.
As the one of the few locally-owned funeral homes in our community, we at Hart's Mortuary really value our rich history and love sharing it. We believe it's important for families to know the stories behind our business so they can feel comfort in knowing they've entrusted the care of their loved one to a real family with generations of experience.
We have years of experience caring for families from all walks of life, cultures and faiths. Our unsurpassed staff and our family provide kind, caring, professional service. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession who are dedicated to excellence in service, adhere to the highest funeral industry standards, and have exceptional integrity.

Service was decent and things were fine at first. Their FEGLI person in the office was only interested in arguing with me and I had to get the decedent's boss on the phone with her for her to accept the information she was being given, they spoke about my account with them to family members that they should not have been speaking to as they weren't the ones who signed the contract and in doing so proceeded to give out my financial information and that of my deceased father's estate which I'm pretty sure is illegal. When I contacted them about the Breach they lied to me about the information that

My grandfather was cremated and my mother dealt with your company. You charged her $2500 for a service fee, and all you did was cremate him. Her bill was $4227. James is the rudest person I’ve ever talked to. Shame on your company for price gouging families when they’re going through such a tough time losing a loved one. I’d give you 0 stars if I could.

I appreciate the personal care and attention that was provided by all of the staff at Hart's Mortuary in Macon, Georgia. My 94 year old mother was born and raised in Milledgeville and personally recommended this family owned business for her own funeral recently. Her casket had to be shipped from California and Hart's handled all of this in a professional and efficient manner. The graveside service was uplifting, personal and reverent. A special thanks to Dwayne True who went above and beyond during a difficult time for our family.

My father passed away February 29, 2020. We had his funeral on March 5th. Milton Heard went above and beyond to make sure the renovations of the space on Cherry were finished so we could have the service there. Everyone at Hart’s was so helpful and amazing. We appreciate all that Hart’s did for us.

My recent experience at a Hart’s funeral was unsatisfactory! During this pandemic, the burial of a loved one has become even more difficult. Flowers at a funeral not only represent the sender, should they not be able to attend services, but also love and respect for the deceased and the family. They are meant to surround the casket whenever possible to provide comfort to the family and not to be stuffed in the back of the Hart’s van thirty feet away, leaving the casket naked, unadorned, bleak and even more heartbreaking. These gestures of love can be placed and removed along with the chairs

My mother passed away suddenly when visiting family in Macon. We didn't know who to use but Hart's was suggested to us. After a quick consultation, we decided to choose them to care for my mother. And we are so glad we did. They provided excellent, kind service. The visitation was perfect (they allowed us to use mom's favorite music), the memorial video was a lovely touch. Every detail was handled with great care.
Each staff member we interacted with was kind, helpful and helped to make a terrible time for my family bearable. I can't thank them enough.

They could not have been nicer or more helpful. Everyone did all they could to make a tough situation as easy as possible for us. And Pie the dog was a wonderful ambassador and also did her part to comfort us at a tough time.

The staff at this funeral home did the best of any funeral home I have ever seen in my 62 years and I've been to a lot of funerals.
