Services
The Flat Rock Village Bakery was founded in 2001 by Scott Unfried, as a small brick oven bakery producing a few varieties of sourdough breads. Scott quickly grew the business as customers loved the artisan breads, and after a few years the bakery was serving coffee, scones, and wood-fired pizzas. In 2005 David Workman became a partner with Scott and we opened West 1st Wood-fired, a full service wood-fired restaurant in downtown Hendersonville.
With our mobile wood-fired oven we take our renowned wood-fired pizzas on the road and bring them to you for your special occasion or event. We have enjoyed catering weddings, rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, company gatherings, and many other types of events with our mobile oven.

Our catering menus will center around a selection of wood-fired pizzas using local and seasonal ingredients, but can also include a selection of salads, sides, or appetizers.Everything we do has a seasonal focus, and we especially enjoy using produce from the local farmers with whom we partner.
We bake specialty cakes to order at our Fletcher location under the guidance of our pastry chef, Kirsten Hatch. They are available for pick up at either location. We are dedicated to using only the best ingredients, so all of our cakes are mixed with local dairy and eggs, organic flour and sugar. And we only decorate with all-natural colors.
The Village Bakeries is dedicated to serving our customers the best food possible. Every menu item is made from scratch and with care using the very best ingredients we can find, and making organic choices a priority. We are committed to the quality and craftsmanship of our food, in order to serve our customers wholesome, delicious, and beautiful food daily.
Sweet and savory scones, bagels, cinnamon swirls, cream cheese and local jam Danish, fresh fruit Danish, chocolate croissants, almond croissants, ham and swiss croissants, plain croissants, seasonal savory tartletts, and more! Handmade, organic, boiled and baked daily. Choose from a daily selection: sesame, seeded, plain sea salt, everything, pesto, cheese and garlic.

Flat Rock is quickly becoming a hidden gem of great local restaurants and the Village Bakery is the original and always quality! The pizza is cooked on a wood fired slab and never disappoints, their salads are large, fresh with homemade dressings and they are all delicious. The bakery has so much to offer from scones to quiches and all kinds of amazing homemade sweets. Its quick, priced well and their outdoor seating is simple and expansive.

Always love coming to our local bakery. Got my usual bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. So yummy. Now that's one good bagel. I love the whole sunflower seeds sprinkled on top. Can't go wrong with a coffee and a baked goodie too.

We wanted to serve wood-fired pizza as part of our meal at our wedding and David made our dreams come true! He was able to bring in a mobile pizza oven and was slinging the most amazing pies. Everyone raved about the pizza- it was TOP-NOTCH. Like with so many others, the pandemic created a lot of uncertainty around our wedding. We ultimately decided to postpone our wedding and hold an intimate family ceremony on our original date instead. But we still wanted to celebrate with all our friends and family once it was feasible. David didn’t hesitate to do all that he could to help us find a new date

much more. The pizza was so fresh and tasty. I saw amazing quiches, too. They have a great heated outdoor section. Check it out.

WOW! This place is SO good. If you’re visiting near town, go! There’s a cute gift shop attached in too. They have great vegan options (always appreciated). I got the hummus toast with pickled red onions, EVOO & za’tar seasoning. My friend got the basil bagel with egg & cheese. I was incredible.

I cannot say enough good things about FRVB! I have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. The pastries are flavorful and perfectly baked; my personal favorite is the ham and cheese croissant. Ask them to warm it up in the wood-fire oven! Today I ordered a half-size turkey avocado sandwich with bacon. The portion was perfect for a light lunch and it was an incredible value. Everything tasted as fresh and can be and it was absolutely delicious.

Pro-tip: Check out the day old basket for half price pasteries! Just toss em in the toaster oven for an easy, inexpensive breakfast.

David catered our wedding at the Brevard Lumber Yard in October. He let us create an extensive custom pizza menu. We were impressed with his professionalism. The guests loved that he brought their mobile wood fired oven and made the pizza on site.
Thanks again for a great event!

First time we'd been there, needed either more signage, or more verbal directions. Saw other customers with the same problem. Wasn't clear where cream and sugar were (outside near the exit door). No one told us where but we found it eventually. Another customer was told "outside next to the door", and she turned and went to the door she came in, which was NOT where it was. There's no inside seating, so we sat in the cold outside awhile, before finding ON OUR OWN, that there was a heated area with vinyl walls, quite comfortable. "Sticky Buns" were great, though they were cold, and the bakery will

I didn't have a chance to try anything because I didn't realize I needed to wear a mask and an employee shot me a nasty glare. Sorry for the inconvenience, but you could just say, "Do you have a mask?"

After browsing the food, nothing looked overly appetizing. However, I do highly recommend Honey & Salt next door--excellent food.

I'll be in Flat Rock for a longer rafting trip at Green River Cove Tubing--also excellent. Maybe I'll try this bakery again.

They removed both my favorite items from the menu: baby spinach salad and turkey Caesar sandwich and I wonder if life will ever be the same. However they still have their focaccia bread and a similar lemon dressing which makes alternate options like the roast beef sandwich and garden salad still very good.

What a great little complex with lots going on from Oscars brewery to a barbecue restaurant Village bakery is where we got some grab and goes and they have another restaurant here for breakfast or brunch but it's always been busy every time I've come so I have actually never experienced it. I must visit if you go to flat rock:-)

We have been here a couple times and it's one of our favorite stops on our road trips. Located on a small tree lined street, it's easy to find because there's a traffic light. There's parking in back if you turn at the light.
Breakfast on the back porch area is enjoyable and we usually take baked goods to go. The bakery portion has fresh bread, brownies, cookies, and more!

Looks can be deceiving. Arriving, this place looks like a badass chill bakery. Instead, the staff was so salty that it may have actually changed the flavor of my bagel with smoked salmon.

THAT dish came with a funky pesto and half a block of Kraft cream cheese. Once I scraped off about 1500 calories, it got much better. About average, as breakfast bagels go

DO NOT ask them if they can reheat a ham and cheese croissant! It's made with gruyere, which really doesn't have the same mouth feel cold.

The chill post-hippy thing evaporates, and snippy French patisserie gives you that curt

I'm so sad we didn't get pictures but we were ravenous after our hike and we wanted a little something to tide us over until dinner. Flat Rock Village Bakery came through in a major way. I got a half Turkey and avocado sandwich and a cup of chicken and wild rice soup and they were so delicious and fresh!!!! My husband got the half Italian hero (cold) and he loved it! We are only here visiting for another day but we have already made plans to come by before our drive home.

Their bakery care had a ton of alluring fresh baked items so I think we'll grab a couple of those for the

Flat Rock Bakery is a little out of the way but worth the drive. It’s consistently good quality food, pastries and coffee. Service is always prompt and friendly. In the time of Covid they have a safe and orderly system in place which I appreciate. There is plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy your goodies. Highly recommended. (The Bear Claw is my favorite)

Service was friendly and efficient and the food is delicious as are the drinks! Makes me wish I lived closer so I could visit regularly.

Cute little place. But the food was going have to be really good because the atmosphere was not. You order your food at the counter and they bring it to you. But then there are signs asking you to bus your table. That's fine but the food was average. My wife liked her Turkey & avocado sandwich. My chicken salad sandwich was sub par. I might give it another shot but I'll look for alternatives first.

The food was wonderful. I had veggie chili and the bakery salad, which had English walnuts, cranberries, goat cheese and spring mix salad greens. I had never had a salad like this before and it was delicious. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the seating in the restaurant is awkward the way they have the tables. They are so close together that you feel like you are all at the same table.

I really enjoyed being here. It took 30 minutes to get our food and it was very good. The pizzas are thin but they tell you that. The best part was the gift shop inside. It was decorated and full or any gift or thing you could ever want. They have paintings and jewelry and toys and blankets and clothes and puzzles. It was beautiful and kept everyone busy. The service was great, parking was a bit difficult though and we had to park out back, and the prices were kinda expensive, but seeing that it’s a scenic area, I can understand their reasoning.

Really fantastic pizza! Their outdoor seating is lovely and has really trees they've built their giant deck around. There's a small parking lot in the back.

The pizza is thinner crust and I've tried the goat cheese, chicken pesto, margarita, and regular cheese pies. They are all perfectly cooked and have so much flavor. As a New York pizza snob, I have to give them their wood fire props! This is our go-to place whenever we come "north of the border". Plus, we've tried an embarrassing amount of their baked goods, which are all stellar! The snickerdoodle cookie is my
