TMJ is an abbreviation for the name of the joint, which we all have, and it is named for the bones that articulate together. Your mandible (lower jaw) fits into the base of the Temporal bone in a socket, which is called the Temporomandibular Joint. We all have 2 TMJs. When people suffer discomfort, it is called TMD.
Trauma and stress seem to be the most likely causes of TMD Disorder. Major trauma, such as blows to the head, auto accidents, falls and sports trauma involving whiplash can be factors. Minor trauma, involving being open too long for surgical/dental procedures, bruxism or grinding of the teeth (usually stress related) over a long period of time can be factors as well.

I had the best dental experience of my life at this practice! I came in with a tooth a previous dentist had totally botched. Dr Scott saved the day! He was very personable, very knowledgeable, very gentle, and very effecient. All of his staff was amazing, and his dentistry is top notch and very affordable. Love this place! Everyone is so nice. The front desk girls , Michelle and Holly are fast, friendly and have great personality. Dr Scott and Tammy are the Best!! They keep you laughing even while he is working on your teeth. Dr Scott does not cause you any pain when he gives you shots and makes sure you are always pain free and comfortable when he is working on you.
Lindsey cleaned my teeth the first time I saw Dr Scott. She is super sweet and did a Great Job!

Highly highly recommend them. Excellent and friendly staff. Dr. Adam Smith is awesome. He defitnetly caters to his patients needs. You will not feel any discomfort. The assistants are so sweet and will make you feel at ease. Front desk staff greets you with a pleasant smile and make sure you are content before you leave. I will definitely keep them as my dentist and decided to bring my son as well. So worth the location.

Second visit to Greenbrier Family Dental. Thoroughly impressed. Very friendly, polite staff. Comfortable, relaxed atmosphere while waiting. The hygienist was very professional and friendly. She would talk with me during my cleaning and let me know what she was doing. She was not heavy handed either! Nice job Allison! Dr. Scott was very personable as well. I would recommend Greebrier Family Dental to anyone in need of dental care.
