Located right off Thousand Oaks Blvd, in the heart of Thousand Oaks, is one of the oldest karate schools in the Conejo Valley, run by Chuck Norris's 67th Black Belt Great Grand Master Dennis Ichikawa.

Services
We specialize in family training. From pre-schoolers 3-5 years old, children 5-10 years old, teens and adults. We also offer women's self defense, grappling and self defense for seniors. A great family oriented school, full of a wonderful sense of comradery, a place to learn, grow, and flourish. We build strong character through martial arts training.
Founder and chief instructor Dennis Ichikawa has been training in the martial arts for over 40 years. He started at the Chuck Norris martial arts studio in 1970 and was promoted to the rank of black belt in 1973. Dennis then opened up his first martial arts school (Tarzana Karate) in 1974, fast forward 42 years later he now has over 900 Black Belts, was promoted to the rank of 9th Degree Black Belt by Pat Johnson and owns and operates T.O.
Based from the orgin style of Korean Tang Soo Do, American Tang Soo Do is a mixture of Korean kicking as well as Japanese hand techniques. Brought from Korea to America, Chuck Norris learned the art in the army along will Pat Johnson. American Tang Soo Do consists of Korean forms, American and Japanese self defense technique, as well as Japanese grappling.

We love T.O Westlake Karate! My kids were new to karate classes and martial arts . We found this karate school on google and dropped by. The staff was very warm and friendly and welcomed us in to try a class for free. They offer a great schedule and have very good instructors. Our kids enjoyed the traditional structure they provided while still keeping it fun . Highly recommend!!

I always wanted to learn martial arts and self defense so I could protect myself and my family. That’s when I found the best martial arts school and signed us all up! The kids karate classes were exciting, engaging and so much fun, all the while learning self control, discipline and curriculum. I highly recommend Thousand Oaks Karate. The owners are top notch and all the instructors are knowledgeable, caring, and so passionate. It truly is the best karate school!

I've been coming here for a little over a year. My wife and daughter have recently joined and my son will too when his is old enough. I LOVE this place. There is a wealth of knowledge across all the instructors yet they remain humble. There is a strong focus on respect as well as learning the art. This place feels like home to me. Kudos to Great Grand Master, Grand Master and their supporting team for creating such a wonderful and safe environment for kids (and adults!) to grow and succeed.

Can’t speak enough of this studio! For parents looking for a place for children, this is the spot. They focus on building character, confidence, respect, self control. Learning martial arts is an added bonus. Even for adults it’s a good reminder that we need to be humble and kind. Just watching the kids progress motivates you to join in and be part of their journey. Highly recommend to come and take peek, take a couple of classes, and join as a family or solo. Great Grandmaster Ichikawa comes from a very impressive background so look him up (I don’t want to ruin your research surprise)! Enjoy

TO/Westlake Karate studio is amazing! It is a place where our boys not only learn and train in Tang So Doo, but have become part of a family. Great Grandmaster Dennis Ichikawa and Grandmaster Justin Ichikawa go above and beyond for all of their students. They push our boys, but also make training fun. We would recommend this studio to anyone interested in teaching their children discipline, respect for self and others, and also for learning how to defend themselves. We love TO/Westlake Karate!!

I highly recommend TO Westlake Karate Studio. Great Grand Master Dennis and Grand Master Justin Ichikawa are the master minds in teaching the American Tang Soo Do form of karate. There is plenty of structure, participation, and encouragement. In addition, the black belt instructors are dedicated, professional, and knowledgable.
My children were invited to a buddy night and we were impressed with the class. We signed them up and noticed a huge improvement in my daughter and son's concentration and attention span in the studio and at home. They love being on the Demo Team and performing at Belt

My 14 year old daughter has been doing Street Self-Defense with Justin and Becky at T.O. Westlake Karate Studio for nearly a year now. She absolutely loves going and learning to protect herself. My husband and I love the empowerment this class has given her. Her confidence has risen significantly and it gives us such security that she has skills to protect herself. The team at Street Self-Defense is absolutely top notch!

By far the BEST studio anywhere! My grandkids started here several years ago and since moving to the Westside have not been able to find a Karate studio that matches the Knowledge, Discipline, Respect and Dedication ALL the instructors, under the direction of Great Grandmaster Ichikawa, impart on their students.
I, at 61 years of age, after almost 2 years of Women's Self-Defense with Grandmaster Ichikawa, have just started Karate lessons, and it's even amazing to me, how much I have learned in just 10 days! Oh, and the support and feeling of family is incomparable- I am hooked!!!

My son attended TO Westlake Karate studio and we loved it so much back then, that when my youngest daughter wanted to begin classes, there was no question in where she would be going. We love it just as much now, if not more, than we did years ago! The instructors are just incredible. Not only will they excel in Tang Soo Do, but the studio as a whole puts so much emphasis on respect and self responsibility - which I absolutely love!! Being a part of this studio is also helping my daughter build up her self confidence and is teaching her how to work hard for what she wants. I honestly could not
