Talon Winery was established in 1999 as Fayette County's first winery. In 1998, current owner Harriet Allen and her late husband purchased the land in hopes to create an agricultural experience not yet found in Lexington. With experience in law, real estate development, entertainment and family business, Harriet Allen introduced Talon Winery.
In 2009, Talon Winery expanded, making it the first winery in Shelby County. Talon Winery is currently owned by Harriet Allen and her 4 generation family. Talon Winery sits on 300 acres of historic Kentucky farmland, Fair View Farm. The original farm house was built in 1790 when Kentucky was not yet a state (1792).

Whenever we travel, we insist on trying to visit a new winery. We saw that Talon Winery was within a fair distance of Louisville and had very convenient hours, despite the holidays, so that’s where we chose this time! Tastings were fairly priced and the bartender was very knowledgeable about the grapes and barrels. The Cabernet Sauvignon was easily the best Cabernet we have ever tried!!! Most Cabernets are very basic and pleasant. They are great table wines. This one, however, was completely different! I can enjoy this one by itself and can see myself just enjoying one of these bottles at night

We stopped by here for a wine tasting on a Saturday morning, shortly after they opened. We were the only ones there. Normally, you only get to try 3 wines for $3, but if there is not a wait or they aren't busy, they let you try additional tastings for $1 extra. So my husband and I tried our 3 each, plus additional ones.
Here is what we tried:
*Sweet Evening Breeze - Just okay to me
*Blackberry Moscato - a good blackberry wine
*Strawberry Moscato - very good, liked this better than the blackberry moscato
*Coyote Red - Okay, but not a big fan of this one.
*Crimson Kiss - Very good

Very nice winery. The wines are very diverse. From oaky and dry to chocolate and sweet, the wines have varietal flavors. I loved the Pinot Gris which was light, citrus, fruit and delicious. The reds were smoky and earthy and some were dry to smooth and tastes of cherry and very nice. The location is easy to get to. They have food trucks some nights of the week. They don't serve food. We brought cheeses and meats with crackers and had a nice charcuterie and we did the 6 taste test. Then we selected several bottles of wine. It was lovely weather. I can see this place grow in popularity! Half

Beautiful winery in peaceful location. Love the atmosphere!!! My husband and I did the tastings, 6 each. It was mid morning, so we went more for the sweets. While we enjoyed them all, our favorites were Crimson Kiss, and Afterglow! Sheila was an exceptional server who made us feel right at home. We will definitely be returning!!!

I'm a big fan of our local winery, Talon. They offer a great selection of red and white wines. With COVID restrictions, they are ready to host wine lovers.
We went on a beautiful sunny Saturday before the music starts at 4pm and were able to grab two tables under tree in the shade.
We got three bottles of delicious wines, and was able to drink two glasses while enjoying the winery.

Ok. I realized my review was out of date. I have been back to Talon several times with people and they have absolutely redeemed themselves since my first visit.
Service is leaps and bounds better than my first visit. Sheila and Lisa are great, in particular!
They specialize in sweeter wines, which is right up my alley. The Afterglow rosé is one of my faves.
Depending on the day, they have different tasting options. On this day, we were able to sample 6 wines. They now have moscatos too which are sweet and light and delicious.
They are just off of 64 near the outlet shops and are certainly worth
