Services
The funeral home is an important part of any community. In addition to providing a variety of necessary services to the community such as burial services, cremation services, memorial services and celebrations of life, funeral homes also serve as resources for those grieving the loss of a loved one.
We are proud to embrace traditional values, diversity and innovation in honoring the spirit and life of each person we serve. Letting go of a loved one is usually a very difficult process. In order to provide your family peace-of-mind, our funeral home offers complete care, so you can focus on comforting each other as you prepare to say goodbye to someone dear to you.
Funeral Services Throughout history, burial has been a common practice in human communities, large and small; around the world. Learn more about burial, the burial services we offer, as well as the basic components of a traditional funeral service in this section of our website. Cremation Services Are you curious about the cremation process?
Staff members of Smith Family Mortuaries are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff of licensed funeral directors. As a Derby High Alumni, Justin is very involved within the community, where he currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Derby Community Foundation.
The mortuary was established in 1919 as Holmes Mortuary. In 1930 Charles Culbertson and John Downing bought the mortuary as partners. The partnership didn't last long leaving Mr. Culbertson as the sole owner. In 1960 Lee Roy Haynes purchased an interest in the mortuary with Mr. Culbertson to make expansions and improvement on the building.

I have to admit, it feels a little strange giving a place no one wants to have to do business with a "rave review" but I am glad to have these folks around for sure. They seem to do extremely well taking care of the inevitable necessity of funeral services and more importantly doing so with sensitive professionalism for the sake of the family and loved ones. Thank you!

It takes skill and tact to make a difficult and unfortunate experience as easy and painless as possible. We tested their skills every way we could, but they kept their composure and persevered like they had dealt with our type a thousand times before. They are a model of professionalism that everyone who interacts with difficult people should strive to be. Thank you for doing what none of us could.

My experience with Smith Family Mortuary has been so wonderful. Kaycie has just been the sweetest and most helpful during such a difficult time. She has been quick to respond on all of my questions... before, during and even after my mother's service and that has meant so much to me! Every little detail was just perfect!
