Dr. Smith, DMD, is one of only two dentists in this area accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the largest international organization dedicated to the art and science of cosmetic dentistry. Although it has about 7,000 members, less than 300 of them are accredited. Dr. Smith was one of the first dentists to meet AACD's rigorous standards.

Richard N. Smith has been practicing dentistry in the Eugene-Springfield area for over 30 years. He is a San Francisco native and attended the University of Oregon for his undergrad degree. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1969-1980 with duty in Europe and Korea, he returned to the states to raise a family with his wife Mary and begin his own practice.
Botulinum Toxin type A (Botox) is a cosmetic procedure which aids in oral and facial aesthetics and functions. While Botox is normally applied to areas with wrinkles, such as around the eyes and forehead area to prevent aging, the botulinum toxin that it is derived from has a long history of medically therapeutic uses.

I am new to Eugene and I have dealt with some serious dental issues and I was really nervous about going to a new dentist. But boy am I glad I found Dr Smith and the gang at Smile Institute. They have literally changed my life and of course my smile. They are not just amazing people to tell it like it is but they are all super knowledgeable and nice.
I hope I never have to find another dentist. I could not recommend them any more than I already do. Thank you Dr. Smith and everyone in the office for your compassion and commitment.

I love Dr. Smith and the entire crew at the Smile Institute. I have an amazing smile thanks to Dr. Smith and his staff. Amazing customer service and they actually explain everything the procedure, its price and all options BEFORE they do any work. They are the best around for sure. I was a new patient... They confirmed my basic cleaning appointment several times... But 40 minutes after said appointment I was still reading magazines in the waiting room. That's enough to demonstrate to me that they aren't respectful of their patient's time, so I left. Lesson learned... Made an appointment with my old dentist.

I love my dentist! I used to hate going in for cleanings, but this place is posh. Each time I come in, I am greeted with a bottle of chilled Perrier and very friendly staff. Dr. Tillman and Dr. Smith are both excellent dentists, and their staff does everything to make me comfortable- my favorite music while in the chair, neck pillow, and a blanket. I love the work they do, and the experience is actually really nice too. Thank you Smile Institute! Please don't ever change or go away.

I had bonding work done at the smile institue about 8 years ago to fix my chipped and crooked teeth. Dr. Smith did an amazing job.
Bonding is usually just a temporary fix that lasts about 4-5 yrs, but because he's such a gifted dentist, my bonding has lasted over 7 yrs with only minimal work needed.
I highly recommend going to Dr. Smith with any dental needs.
