Services
The Viking Motel's story began in 1959, when the property was built along old Highway 99. Back then, 99 was the main north-south highway on the West coast, stretching from the California-Mexico border to Blaine, Washington. In 1964, Highway 99 was officially replaced by Interstate 5, which runs parallel to 99, three blocks east of the motel.
We've got the all the basic amenities covered and then some! (Full list below.) Free off-street parking for easy access. Complimentary WiFi to stay connected. Visit the front desk to peruse ourselection of toiletries and laundry supplies available for purchase (we also have coin operated laundry facilities on-site).

After posting my 10/22/2021 review here on Yelp, I got an email reply the very next day -- it answered the original reservation question I had sent to reservations@vikingmotelportland.com on Sep 22, 2021. It was a relief to hear from Viking Motel and to know they had found the problem. Another mystery solved. :D
There are two remaining issues pending which I reported, and I've waited over a week before writing this update in hopes they would be addressed: 1) vikingmotelpdx@yahoo.com is still listed on NextDoor despite the fact it bounces immediately; 2) there's no alternative email listed

It's an older motel, but very clean. At first musty smelling. Air it out and it was fine. Comfortable bed. Clean bathroom.
Did not like shampoo in a pouch. Very difficult to tear open so had to use my teeth. Hm shampoo in my mouth . So if the owner do read this, not to happy with that.
The train waiting stop is across the street, so very easy access to the city.
Some restaurants walking distance.
Overall not a bad stay for one night.

The lady at the front desk was very nice was very helpful we have never been to that part of Portland and she gave us ideas on how to get downtown with the train out front call the taxi for me. Rims for claim it was actually very quiet. And me being a smoker I know I don't want to hear it. They have a deck on the side that's open 24 hours for you to smoke. I would definitely go back to this place thank you very much

Back in 1957 when the Viking Motel first opened on Interstate, it must have been a very different scene. In those days, Interstate Avenue was more like a highway, but these days it's the street with the transit trains running down the middle. The Viking is now in a mostly residential area and even with the trains running most of the day and night, it's still a very quiet part of town.
The Viking's current owner Hari bought the place back in 1978 and it has been with his loving hand that it has stayed in good condition all these years. Hari loves his motel and it shows. It&apos

Clean, good location, a bit dated
stayed here for two nights mid september. my comments would pretty much echo the majority of those previously posted. room was good sized, fairly comfortable bed, very clean room, had the micro and fridge, and was in a good location for getting into the city. good value for the money, when compared to other places in the city plus the convenience factor. staff was excellent and friendly, which is always a plus and check in was really smooth. its a good, clean, basic, no frills, and a bit dated place to stay, but a good value for the location. one very nice

I got tired of finding "deals" online only to find they were scary and dirty on yelp.
Finally found this place, safe, really clean and just what we needed.
The bed was extremely nice and made for a good nights rest.
You can only call to reserve but it takes 3 min to do.
When I called and told them I would get in late they were nice enough to place the key under the door mat!
Definitely a great place to stay!

5 stars for me, came here from Northridge California and wasn't sure where to stay for 5 days here, checked out other reviews for the Viking and decided to stay here, very pleasantly surprised, nothing fancy if that's what you're looking for, but this is perfect place for a nice clean room, private parking lot, the whole place is well kept, I have already recommended to the friends we came to visit so when they have more relatives and friends visiting they will come here, very affordable, my 1st 5 star in a while, and I slept like a baby here

Stayed here over ten years ago and it has changed 100%. So has the rates, but the room was beautiful and the bathroom could have been in any 4 star hotel. The towels were beautifully.arranged in the bathroom with amenities and a hair dryer. The train passing in front the motel was very convenient for downtown and the Thai restaurant around the corner was excellent.

My family and I stayed for one night. The room was very clean and tidy, no smells at all, the bed's are clean and in good shape. The bathrooms were very clean! The owner & her staff are very friendly and helpful. A different family hit our car and tried to leave but the manager stopped them and had one of her employee's come to our room to tell us. You can definitely tell that the owner and her employee's have great communication, and impeccable customer service! I will definitely stay here whenever I visit Oregon again! Great first experience at a motel!

It's been a few years since I checked in here & I never remembered to finish my review..
basically when I came to town my ex boyfriend would pay for a room here so he could see me & his new girlfriend wouldn't find out... I didn't have anyone special in my life at the time & who would pass up a free motel room? The rooms were pretty clean & the bathrooms weren't the best but there was cable TV for me to watch when he'd leave to go home to his poor dumb girlfriend & there was this funny smoking pavilion where there was always some shoe less old man

I'll try to be as objective and straight forward as possible. Let's say each star represents the following:
1. Location (STAR)
2. Cleanliness (NO STAR!)
3. Amenities (NO STAR!)
4. Price (STAR)
5. Noise/Privacy (NO STAR!)
I would give this place 2 out of 5.
1. Location: (STAR) definitely in a great location in the sense that it felt central and close to wherever we wanted to go. It is close by the 5/405 freeway which allowed us to easily access the neighborhoods/area we wanted to explore (e.g. The pearl, Alberta st, burnside, Mississippi ave, downtown)

I needed to find a last-second, affordable hotel close to the Convention Center and Yelp led me to the delightful little Viking Motel. All kinds of good things to say:
-it costs roughly half of what the big chain hotels cost
-it is located right along the Tri Met Yellow line for easy access to everywhere, yet it's also quiet despite the proximity to the tracks and an arterial
-it's in a neat neighborhood, rather than a business district, which means it's close to a good market, local coffee shop, and pretty easy access to other locally owned small businesses and restaurants and

My husband and I stayed for a weekend about a month ago and we were very happy with both the service and the room. I made our reservation over the phone a few days in advance and spoke with the owner; he was very sweet, patiently answered my few questions, and gave me the discounted room rate listed on their website right away without any hassle or haggling.
The room was nicer than I expected for that price point--no frills, but that's no surprise. It was newly painted, very clean, and had all the necessities (fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, TV). The bed was decent (and new!) and their towels

$75,00 for a double, FULL kitchen, clean and spacious. Friendly staff too. THAT is why it gets 4 stars.
My room has two beds, a comfy chair, a tV, a small dining room table, a FULL fridge and a FULL kitchen with dishes. Great for a weeklong stay in Portland or just passing through like me and my dad.
I really wanted to stay at the more expensive but incredibly cool looking Kennedy School (McMenamins) but they were full. :( I am sure this place isn't as cool as that, but when you want a bargain for a very adequate hotel-- stay here.
