Founded in 1850, The El Dorado County District Attorney's Office with a staff of over 57 dedicated professionals, we'll fight for your rights and for justice to be served on those who harm others.

In January of 2007, Vern became El Dorado County's District Attorney. In addition to being a county prosecutor, Vern served for several years with the California Department of Justice as Deputy Attorney General in the Appeals, Writs and Trial Division. Vern is currently the President of the California District Attorneys Association and is the co-chair of the association's ethics and insurance fraud committees.
Services
In most instances, crimes must be reported to the County of El Dorado Sheriff's Department, Placerville Police Department, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, or the California Highway Patrol. Once the case is filed, the District Attorney Investigators assist the Prosecutors in preparing the case for trial by conducting interviews, interrogations, processing evidence, and preparing reports.

It is our hope that the following information will assist seniors and dependent adults with crime prevention, crime awareness, identifying types of crimes commonly associated with seniors and dependent adults, and crime reporting resources.
The County of El Dorado District Attorney's Office investigates and prosecutes those who commit insurance fraud and violate California consumer protection laws. The County of El Dorado District Attorney's Office acts as a hub of information to refer residents to appropriate regulatory agencies for various complaints.
The California Department of Insurance Fraud Division together with district attorneys, insurers and employers will investigate and prosecute persons suspected of insurance fraud crimes. The "BIG DEAL" is that widespread insurance fraud ultimately translates into higher premiums, which can result in elevated costs of goods and services, and, ironically, layoffs, plant closures, and out-of-state relocation.
