Theoretically, I am comfortable with both psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral approaches. I typically adapt my therapeutic style to fit the individual needs of each unique person. In addition to offering traditional talk therapy, I also use clinical hypnosis and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) when I consider these techniques to be appropriate.
I find that clinical hypnosis is especially useful in helping individuals deal with all kinds of anxiety, including performance anxiety (public speaking, test-taking, musical performance), anxiety associated with upcoming medical procedures or surgery, and insomnia. Hypnosis can be helpful for pain relief and with other mind-body conditions.

When you think of hypnosis or hypnotherapy, what may come to mind are the stage hypnotists who take volunteers from the audience, hypnotize them, and give them suggestions to quack like a duck, act drunk, or laugh hysterically. Working with a psychotherapist who has been trained in clinical hypnosis to help people like you is an entirely different experience.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a technique developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in 1989 to treat trauma. Since that time considerable research has shown EMDR to be effective in treating a variety of trauma and stress conditions. It is not known exactly how EMDR works but it seems to affect brain functioning.

Highly recommend: uses EMDR, hypnotherapy, and talk therapy to deal with childhood trauma. Previously, I've used talk therapy to deal with childhood abuse issues. Using a combination of EMDR, hypnotherapy, and talk therapy, Dr. McNeal has been able to deeper than just talk therapy alone. I've been consistently surprised with the progress I've experienced in the past year.

Look, I'm not crazy. . . no really, they say you go to counseling to keep from becoming crazy. . .not because you're already there. . . okay, well that's what people say, and I'm stickin' to it.
Dr. McNeal is truly a life saver. She is kind and you know she is doing what she is meant to be doing in life because she's so good at it. I can honestly say that some of the biggest, positive changes I've made , in my life, have taken place during this time that I have been working with Dr. McNeal.
