The Board Certified Psychiatrists at Stillpoint Mental Health provide expert evaluation and treatment services to restore and optimize your mental well being. We strive to provide excellent diagnosis and treatment for adults, adolescents, and children who suffer from a spectrum of psychiatric disorders.

By doing so, we promote confidence and better health in our patients. A first-time visit to a psychiatrist or therapist can make some people feel nervous. Please know that everyone on our staff will do their best to treat you with kindness and professionalism. Visit our Treatment page to find out exactly what you'll need to be prepared for your first visit with us.
Services
We strive to make seeing a psychiatrist or therapist as easy as possible in order to improve the mental health of individuals of all ages in our community. We achieve this by providing excellent care and service delivered with kindness, integrity, and respect. Dr. Brendan Beresford (pronounced Bears-ferd) attended medical school in Newfoundland, Canada and worked as a Family Practice physician for many years.
All of the providers at Stillpoint Mental Health are offering appointments through telehealth, and some of the doctors are seeing patients in person at the office. If you choose a telehealth visit, you will receive a call from our staff asking for your copay or payment before the appointment begins.
If you would like to schedule an appointment or relay a message to your doctor, please call our office at 630-325-8893. After business hours, your call will automatically be forwarded to our answering service. You may leave a message with the service, or if it is an emergency, you may ask them to page the doctor on call for the group.
The short answer is, psychiatrists are medical doctors; psychologists and therapists are not. All three kinds of professionals treat people with problems that vary widely by degree and type, from mild anxiety and depression to schizophrenia. Psychiatrists begin their careers with medical school. After earning their MD, they go on to four years of residency training in mental health.

Incompetent front desk/billing staff. Do not bill insurance correctly and then send letters charging you for late fees and threatening collections for the job they didn't do correctly. I'm double covered...the issue is yours not mine!

I’ve been a patient at Stillpoint for several years. When I moved out of state and returned, Dr. Beresford, my previous doctor, could no longer add me to his practice. I was unfortunately placed with psychiatrists who were competent but at least to me, didn’t have very warm or compassionate personalities. After an unfortunate incident with my last Stillpoint physician, I asked if I could see Dr. Beresford again. I was very happy to be told yes. Dr. Beresford is calm, welcoming, patient, caring, and takes time to answer questions and concerns.
I think Stillpoint, Iike many other businesses

Disappointed overall. The fees may be std., but the pill factory approach without spending enough time with a patient to really get a full assessment of the person/situation is not helpful and doesn't inspire confidence. I plan to look elsewhere after a few months of ineffectual treatment, little room to talk through options, and a coldly clinical manner of engagement.

An office administrator there, Katy, really went to bat for me. My pharmacy was screwing me around about getting my medicine and she made the effort to get it resolved and get me my medicine. My mental health has suffered through the years and at some point you just get so tired of trying to deal with insurance and pharmacy b.s. Katy was just really willing to take it off of me. If you have had the mental issues I have had, you know what I mean, when someone steps in to take a little of the weight off, it is just SO helpful it makes you cry. Thanks Katy!

I have been a patient at Stillpoint for well over 7 years. I've recommended them to many friends and family members throughout the years. Never had any issues.
I received a voice message from Kim @ Stillpoint in June 2020 regarding 2 office visits in 2019 that were never paid by my insurance company. I was told that the insurance company needed to verify some information. I called my insurance company and was told that I needed to verify if I had other medical insurance. I told them that I didn't and gave them the dates Stillpoint said they weren't paid. I was advised by the insurance company

I was a patient here... And they actually made my life.. A pithy medical practice at best.
They pretend to care, jam on their keyboard.. But ultimately care nothing about their patience and more about peddling mind altering prescriptions w/ disclousing their potential life altering side effects.. Have no fear, they'll keep peddling more pharms.. I not the drugs... It's just you're not on the right ones...
All and all, that's as scientific their practice gets.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Beresford’s for the past 6 years and he is by far the most competent and knowledgeable clinician I have ever had. Within my first few visits I was already making progress and feeling better!
I believe there is nothing more valuable than investing in your well-being. The challenge is finding the right doctor to help you get to the root of your issues and addressing them with an accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Thats why I put my trust and feel safe in Dr. Beresford’s care.
Dr. Beresford gives reality checks and does not just nod in agreement but questions and

Doctors are excellent, but the front desk is horrendous.
I’ve called so many times across the course of a week because my prescription was lost on vacation.
I get violently ill if I miss a dose and they would not answer or return my calls.
Since it’s a psych med, ER and urgent care will not prescribe it, so I’m on vacation with constant nausea and vomiting, barely able to walk, let alone ride in a car.

I’ve long had problems with this practice refilling my prescriptions (can’t even count how many times I’ve been ill because of their terrible communication system).
But now I am starting with a new practice next week. Dr Beresford was my doctor for years and years, but when I saw him a few days ago he was sarcastic, cruel, and mocking. Least helpful doctor I’ve ever seen...I assume it’s senility or another condition that comes with old age, because he never used to be like that, but please beware: this is a very sloppy practice that will make you ill when they don’t respond to your

Dr. Cusick is the best - enough said! I also applaud the administrative staff; over the years, they’ve gone over and above the call of duty in the complex mess, I mean maze of Health / Mental Health Insurance. Special call out to Katie..always helpful, discreet as needed and sometimes firm when you cross the line. Thanks Stillpoint!
