The ankle joint is composed of three bones. The Talus, Tibia and Fibula. Ankle arthritis Arthritis is one of the leading causes of disability in the united states. This usually occurs in patients over the age of 50. Arthritis of the ankle joint is the destruction of the cartilage between the three ankle joint bones.
Charcot or Charcot neuropathic osteoarthropathy is the progressive collapse of the foot and ankle joints. This is a very serious and potentially limb-threatening lower-extremity complication of diabetes and neuropathy. Charcot leads to degeneration of the joints: this can cause bony prominence which leads to open sore and lesions.
Flat feet (also called pes planus or fallen arches) is a postural deformity in which the arches of the foot collapse, with the entire sole coming into complete or near-complete contact with the ground. An estimated 20-30% of the general population has an arch that simply never develops in one or both feet.
Haglund's deformity also known as a "pump bump" or retrocalcaneal bursitis is a bony enlargement on the back of the heel. This causes irritation to the soft tissue surrounding the bony enlargement. The achilles tendon may get inflamed, along with the bursa (fluid filled sac between the tendon and bone).
