IRONBOUND Boxing offers free amateur boxing training for opportunity youth in Newark, New Jersey. In addition to its free boxing training programs, IRONBOUND invites its young boxers into a world of supported entrepreneurship, business education, mentorship, and paid internships through its Courage Academy and THRIVE incubator programs, capitalizing on the mutual skills necessary to succeed in and out of the ring.
Using 1300 square feet in a city-owned recreation center, IRONBOUND Boxing began with a simple value proposition: Show up. Put in the work. Rinse and repeat. While a fraction of IRONBOUND Boxing athletes do win national titles, our primary goal is to build future community leaders, successful business owners, and powerful contributors.

Services
Most people don't understand boxing-and that's understandable. From an outsider, it looks violent, gritty, and uncomfortable to watch. For those of us who love the sport, though, it's a fantastic display of discipline, finesse, and strategy. Here's the thing: You don't need to completely understand or love boxing to see the phenomenal impact it can have on the lives of those who get into the ring.
A veteran-led non-profit, IRONBOUND Boxing Academy is registered with USA Boxing and directed by USA Boxing-certified coaches, taking over one-third of its boxers to the USA Boxing National Championships in the spring of 2021. Our unique approach offers free intensive coaching for competition and fitness, building the grit, confidence, and discipline that enhances performance well beyond the ring.
We fight unemployment and economic hardships with entrepreneurial training & small business development for urban youth. In communities like Newark, almost 40% of our population lives below the poverty line-and that was prior to the pandemic. With the Thrive Initiative, we take the grit, confidence, and discipline from our IRONBOUND Boxing gym and transform young boxers into thriving entrepreneurs.
