I started my photography business in Des Moines out of a small, two-bedroom apartment in 1977. Over the past 40 years I have had the opportunity to photograph two former Presidents, the 1980 Olympics and countless families, weddings and senior pictures. Making connections with people I might not otherwise have met and hearing their stories has been one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
Planning a wedding can be stressful. At James Cobb Photography, we are committed to making sure your special day is stress free and full of love. We will capture the natural moments as they happen and provide you with elegant, sophisticated and timeless images. All wedding packages include an indoor or outdoor engagement session and video of the ceremony.
Our commercial photography allows you to showcase your business to clients, prospective employees and for promotional materials. From business portraits, product photography, interior or exterior of your building, aerial photos, or photos of your employees working. We shoot in studio or on location.
As a pilot for over 30 years, I have grown to love shooting drone footage. As technology continues to advance, I have been able to combine my passion for flying as a certified drone photographer. I offer progress photos of your home, business or town as well as any creative projects you have in mind.
From photographing horse shows to the 1980 Winter Olympics, I have loved photographing sporting events for the majority of my career. Sports packages vary based on the type of activity and sporting event but we offer something for everyone to show off their skills. Whether it's an individual or your entire school, we've got you covered.

I would like to offer a fresh perspective compared to the 2 previous review. Mr. Cobb took football pictures for one of the largest school districts in IA. The "professional" pictures were out of focus, shadowed and he thought to use a creek with tall grass as a backdrop (Very Olan Mills circa 1980). When questioned about these pictures he said they were fine and that an umbrella light caused the shadows. He also had no objections to the terrible backdrop. Groups of parents contacted him and he was unapologetic and unwilling to make any sort of amends. We as parents were not looking for

James is a very talented and professional photography. I rarely leave reviews unless a product or person completely blows my mind and exceeds my high standards. The day of my appointment, I got something in my eye that morning that I couldn’t seem to flush out. An hour before my session, I called James to ask if we could reschedule as my eye was extremely red and the make up on that side kept running. He was very gracious and good natured and rescheduled me for a couple days later. At my appointment, he was very professional and I could tell he truly had an eye for creating an exceptional photograph

Jim is fantastic! We had him for our wedding this summer, and we couldn't have been happier. He met with us several times before the day, and walked us through photo spots at our venue. He was more than just photos--he helped us plan our itinerary with when and where is the best time/spot to cut cake, greet our guests, etc. He also filmed our ceremony. He makes everyone feel very at ease with photos, even by entertaining kids to help them look at the photos. His wedding packages are very reasonable for everything that's included. Highly recommend buying prints through him as they are very high

We we're very pleased with the whole experience of having are pictures taken with Jim. We had not had any professional pictures done for many years. We started with my husband and myself. We we're pleased. When our son came home from California we had a family picture take. Very pleased with final project.

Update: The nice thing about having James do a photo shoot of our business is that you can use his high quality photos on Google, Yelp, BBB, or your own web site for a long time. I have had James R Cobb do several shoots over the years. Recently I had him come and do a list of photos that I needed for several web pages for my business. He was excited to follow the list of shots and add some expertise along the way so we got great looking pics for the website, and other web needs. Jim is always easy to get along with and genuinely cares about the outcome of the photo shoot. You can trust Jim.

Mr. Cobb photographed a wedding at our venue and all the guests could not stop talking about how fun he was! He interacted with all the guests and made them feel super comfortable. He is extreamly professional, very easy to work with, and a full on people person. You can tell he has been doing this for a long time-he loves his job!

What a pleasure it was to work with Jim as our wedding photographer. He brought a ton of experience, knew where to be at just the right times to capture some incredibly special photos, and he did it almost invisibly!!
