The Veranda
Nestled in a lush green haven in the heart of San Antonio, the Veranda is an event space like no other. The original "castle on the hill" offers no less than seven event spaces to mix and match, including the 1931 estate house built of local stone, an artist cottage, an airy covered pavilion, and rolling, oak-lined lawns.

Combined with the versatile international cuisine of Spice of Life Catering and a detail-oriented event staff dedicated to making your unique vision come true, the Veranda is everything you've been looking for.
Services
The Veranda is owned and managed by Spice of Life Catering, founded by Chef Mike Bomberg in 2004. A year-long trip around the world after college convinced Bomberg that he had to become a chef, graduating from the prestigious Culinary Institute of American at Hyde Park, New York. His menus continue to carry that international influence and inventive, unexpected flair.
Host your next meeting inside our estate house, party on the patio, have a ball in the pavilion, or host a quiet intimate affair in the cottage - we'll make it memorable for you. Inside spaces are perfect for business and social events including luncheons, day retreats or cocktail parties. Outside, naturally wooded areas provide a cool green backdrop for larger events.
Congratulations on your engagement! We are excited to help make all of your wedding dreams come true. Historic homes make perfect wedding venues, symbolizing family, foundation, longevity, and happily-ever-after. Imagine your party mingling on the lush lawn, gathered in the picturesque wood, or in a covered pavilion under romantic string lights, enjoying the world-class cuisine prepared by distinguished Chef Mike Bomberg.
Business events don't have to be staid! Treat your guests to The Veranda's beautiful setting and Chef Bomberg's fresh, inventive menus. As the event planner, you'll appreciate the flexibility, professionalism, and dedication of our event staff, and enjoy the versatility of multiple event spaces. The Veranda is perfect for conferences, galas, casino nights, holiday parties, and company retreats.
Birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, showers, debutante parties, and other special occasions deserve a memorable venue and a menu tailored to the guest or guests of honor. We had our wedding here in January 2021 and it was wonderful! Kim and The Veranda squad were accommodating and helped us with every question we had. The venue is perfect for large gatherings because there were different beautiful spots for guests to explore and hang out before the ceremony and during our cocktail hour. They provide a lot of onsite ceremony location options. There was a lovely bridal suite and a grooms suite. We had a large wedding party so we utilized their cottage as well! I don't have photos of the scenery itself but we were able to stay there for our wedding photos as well

I want to give a HUGE THANK YOU! to ALL the staff and more specifically Jessica & Kimberly for making our wedding a memorable experience. My husband and I were canceled at our original venue. So within a week we had to find a new place and re arrange our entire wedding. I made one call to Jessica and she saved the day! She asked me what I needed, and was very attentive throughout the whole process. For situations like ours, it can be difficult to feel confidant going into a whole new situation last minute. Yet, Jessica and her staff did everything in their power to communicate, and provide nothing

I attended a wedding there this past weekend. I give the food 5 stars and the staff 5 stars. The House is lovely and there's a nice reception area. However, the grounds were in need of a lot of attention - it was not mown; there was trash littered around; the wedding party and guests were eaten up by insect bites (they had not done any fogging or treatment for insects); the outdoor lighting was not sufficient. The most neglected areas were in the parking areas around the perimeters. The fence line was littered with broken tables and chairs. That's not appealing to guests! You can only make it so

The Veranda was absolute amazing as a wedding venue! They really work with you, are very communicative, and are all around wonderful staff. They made our wedding day easy, were accommodating, and were so helpful! Their venue is absolutely gorgeous, a hidden gem in the Castle Hills area.

This beautiful gem hidden in the city has a rich history and is perfect for small meetings or events. The “castle on the hill” has gorgeous stone architecture and inside the main building you just want to explore every nook. The only downside (why not 5 stars) is because of parking. Limited for sure. I feel like it can fit a ton more people than parking allows. This place is beautiful though. It would be an amazing photo location spot too.

Celebrated a beautiful couple at this venue. Iv always driven by this place and wanted to check it out because of how secretive the entrance is. When you pull in it's a small dirt road with beautiful big trees. There is not much room for parking, so this venue is for small events, like maybe 50. The ceremony was held outside on the nice green grass, only downside was the mosquitos. Next the guests gathered in a small but elegant building where the guestbook, gifts and cocktail hour was. Then we all gathered into the main dining hall where we had dinner and celebrated. The hall was not too

Gorgeous venue. I loved the atmosphere and everything about this place. The landscaping was well kept up with and the buildings were beautiful. The parking was very very limited though. The only downfall I'd see. The restrooms were well kept and the catering was delicious. Loved the experience and vibe here.

What an experience. Beautiful venue for my daughters wedding. Jess and Chanel made sure the day came off without a hitch. Food was great! Reception hall was beautiful. Eternally grateful for the support you gave us throughout the planning. We were truly able to enjoy the day because we didn't have to worry about anything! Thank you to everyone there!

Do not do business with these people. And this isn't some idiotic complaint to get mad at these people for spilling my water or something simple. Please read: We signed a contract for a dollar amount and 4 days later they are trying to bill us for a labor fee that we never signed for in our contract to set up and take down chairs. The owner and staff try to play a guilt trip on you to get you to pay for the fee by saying "Well you had a good event right? We have to pay our people. Are you telling me we shouldn't pay our people?" I can't think of a business that can

We had our wedding reception here and it was like a dream! They are renovating the pavilion and didn't get it done in time for our night, however they (and our wedding planner - Keri The Event Assistant) did an amazing job of making everything perfect. This place is a hidden gem in San Antonio and even in the middle of August in an open pavilion it was cool enough. One benefit from a planning aspect is they have their own (on site) catering, they do linens and tables, which made things a lot easier. Not to mention the Spice of Life food is incredible. If you're looking to get married

We attended a party here and we were simply blown away. The venue had multiple buildings and can accommodate all kinds of events from weddings to graduations. I wish I would have taken more pictures! They have a beautiful pond in the middle of the courtyard with goldfish! This location will be top of mind for my future events!

This venue is divine! The staff customizes any event. They have even done private events for our family. Mike is an amazing chef on and off site for catering.

I can not say enough excellent things about Jessica, event coordinator. She tailors every detail to fit your event. Jessica's communication is impeccable. Go see the venue. It's beautiful.

The Veranda is San Antonio's Best Kept Secret. Located in Castle Hills, near West Ave and Lockhill-Selma Roads. This Castle Hills landmark, which once was a lovely home estate, is now the perfect venue for a wide variety of events including weddings, receptions, business functions and holiday parties.

The grounds are very well maintained, giant oaks, luscious gardens and water features, and all the modern amenities needed. Interesting architecture and landscapes to serve as a backdrop for portraits. This is really a nice venue.

We have recently attended three separate events at this venue

A nice venue with horrible, terrible service and execution. I'm sure it sells well but when it comes to event time you may regret it. Best to keep looking. How tacky to charge the wedding party then have the bar tenders pushing for tips. The staff was really bad.

I was really impressed with this venue. I attended a wedding here and loved the different spaces within the venue. For example, they have a lovely courtyard space for cocktail hour, a beautiful lawn space for a ceremony, and a covered dance floor area for dinner and dancing. As a guest, I enjoyed the change of moods, but the convenience of just walking a few steps to the next location. The foliage was lush and verdant, and the staff was especially charming.
That said, you can hear just a little bit of street noise on the lawn, so if that bothers you make sure to do the ceremony inside or

We had our daughter's baby shower at the Veranda this past Saturday. Everything about it was great. The grounds are beautiful, with a winding tree-lined road winding through the property. The room we were in was actually the first floor of an elegant old house that fit our group of 35 very comfortably. The room definitely had character, and was not your typical rental hall venue.

The food was delicious and plentiful, and Carol, who oversaw the event, did a great job of making sure everyone had everything they needed. Many of our guests said that it was the best baby shower they had ever

5 STARS! Have you SEEN the Veranda? It is a winner! The grounds of the property are incredible - huge oak trees, a lot of beautiful plants and flowers. There are so many different areas - the main house, the patio, the lawn(s), the pavilion, and the cottage. Everywhere you turn you will notice so many gorgeous details.

Originally I signed a contract with the Veranda for my wedding, but after some big changes in mine and my (now) husband's life, we ended up having to cancel our wedding (we eloped). I let the wonderful staff at the Veranda know about our situation, and while the initial

When it comes to event venues in San Antonio, The Veranda ranks among the most beautiful.

In an area that you would never think to look, set back from a bustling street in Castle Hills, hides a secret garden of sorts, which you can make all your own! It was once home to Chef Jason Dady's The Lodge, which I never had the chance to experience, but from what I've heard they've made plenty of changes.

With multiple rooms to accommodate parties of any style, you could have your entire event inside, but why would you when the grounds and the amazing covered patio out back are so inviting

Came here for a young professional networking event. The venue is so beautiful both indoors and outdoors. I can definitely see this place becoming a popular spot to host weddings, cocktail parties and special gatherings, etc.

I was very impressed with the giant oak trees, luscious gardens, courtyard, fountain, pavilion, patio, the architecture and the overall design of the space. It was very elegant, contemporary yet with an old charm. I didn't even feel I was in the heart of SA.

The event was very nicely set up with tasty food through out the venue and two bars (one inside, the other
