Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory
On behalf of my mother, my brothers, and the entire Garbee family, I want to thank you for your exemplary care in making final arrangements for Clyde Lewis Garbee, Sr., this past week. We are so pleased with every aspect of the services rendered by you and the entire staff at the Lynchburg location of Tharp Funeral Home.

Every staff member served with compassion and respect for us. Your service was itself a tribute to my late father. Thank you again for your graciousness and kindness you showed to us during our darkest hours.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory is proud to be the most often selected funeral home and crematory in Central Virginia, . We are a family owned and operated funeral home with locations in Lynchburg, Bedford, Smith Mountain Lake, Madison Heights and Roanoke, and have proudly served Central Virginia for nearly a century.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory's history of serving the families of our community began in 1848, and we are proud to be Bedford's oldest continuously operated business! Glenn Tharp entered funeral service in Bedford in 1933, and rose from funeral director to owner of the firm.

Glenn served families here until his retirement in the early 1990's and he passed his tradition of excellence on to his son, Willard D. "Skip" Tharp, and to his grandson, Chris Tharp.Chris, along with location manager, Jared Tucker, now operate the Bedford location.
The Smith Mountain Lake population is continuously growing as people from the general region build homes for weekend retreats, summers and retirement. Many residents have questions concerning funeral and cremation services along with costs. Seeing that those residents needed the convenience of a family-owned option that was close to home, the Smith Mountain Lake Arrangement Center opened its doors in 2002.
With the residents of Madison Heights having only a corporate-owned funeral home in their hometown, we have been repeatedly asked through the years by the people of Madison Heights to give them a family-owned option that was closer to their home. We are proud to have recently doubled the size of our Madison Heights chapel (now with seating for 150) at 118 Commonwealth Drive in Madison Heights!
