Dr. Gonzalez was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and attended Central Catholic High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Stanford University. He then attended The College of Physicians & Surgeons at Columbia University where he was awarded his Medical Degree. His residency in General Surgery was completed at Harvard University/Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Allen Alvarez works with a simple guiding mission - help others live a good and healthy life. His practice is unique because he is a board certified general surgeon fellowship trained in minimally invasive surgery; he brings his advanced laparoscopic skills to bariatric surgery. Because of his extensive experience Dr. Allen Alvarez is known for teaching other fellows and surgeons advanced laparoscopy.
I've always been 'for' the underdog, the person who faces big challenges but works hard to overcome them. That's why my calling as a Bariatric Surgeon is a great fit - I get to help hard-working people shed the metabolic obesity burden and get on with the lives they deserve. I've been doing bariatric surgery since 1995, and I've been on the forefront as surgery has become steadily safer and more effective.
Dr. Monica Anz-Cavazos is the clinical director of Sage Bariatric (Formally The Texas Center for Medical & Surgical Weight Loss). She has had extensive training in the field of bariatrics and works very closely with our surgeons to provide pre-operative and post-operative care to all of our patients.
Henneth A. Corado Montenegro, MD is an Obesity Medicine Physician at Sage Bariatric Institute. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Dr. Corado received her medical degree from Universidad de Carabobo, Venezuela, and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Carney Steward Hospital with Tufts University in Boston.

Originally had VSG in 2017 and a revision to RNY 2021. Dr. Cavazos was awesome both times. He is quick but not "rushed." He always worked with a sense of urgency which allows for a patient to feel they are important. He is down to earth but firm. I would certainly trust him again if needed. Too bad he doesn't do skin removal because I would be back in his care without doubts.
As of to date- I have not experienced any problems with the office staff. They have always been kind and helpful.

Dr. Sonny Cavazos is the best and he has saved my life!!! A lap band revision to a sleeve! I have never felt better!! I am 10 days post op and have lost almost 10 pounds this week! The entire staff is wonderful, courteous, helpful, quick responses, excellent results. I also cannot thank my recovery nurse ENOUGH!! She got me to walk one way and the other using her long time experience. She kept me abreast of new updates from the doctor. When I say it’s a family, it’s a family.I was a little nervous about going to a place out of town, but they did not disappoint!! I highly recommend Sage Bariatric

Dr Allen Alvarez is my hero! He corrected a problem surgically that no other doctor would address. He saved my life and I will always remember what he did for me! He is compassionate, confident and very professional. His bedside manner is soothing and reassuring. He has a humorous disposition which helps to decrease my anxiety. The staff and doctors are very professional, caring and knowledgeable. With their encouragement weight loss has been easy . The nutritionist is very professional and caring. Dr.Alvarez is the best in everything he does. His bedside manner is top notch!!!!!! They are professional and helpful with everything. Dr Cavasos and his staff answered any questions I have had, even the most asinine. I feel very confident in their abilities as a institute and have recommended them to several people. I would not have made it if not for them, I know it. I had to travel from southeast KS to Texas for the surgery. But for the care I received that trip was worth it.

Dr. Gonzales is hands down the BEST doctor I have ever seen. His bed side manner is top notch, his professionalism is amazing, and his care for his patients is above and beyond. I cannot express how amazing this doctor is. He manages to make you feel like you’re his only patient. He listens to you speak and carefully explains the plan step by step.
