Fairfax Asphalt was founded in 1969 by John Pfaff. After working several years in the asphalt industry, John decided to buy a dump truck and paver to start improving driveways throughout the north metro. After 43 years of paving, John retired and sold the family business to his daughter Kristin. John is still actively involved in the day-to-day operations including driving truck and helping the crew.
Kristin Pfaff has always looked up to her father and had a handin the business since she was just a little girl. She started working full-time on the paving crew in 1999 while attending college. Kristin took over the company in 2003, the year John retired. She is now the main contact and is involved from estimate through project completion.

Services
Since 1969, Fairfax Asphalt has been paving the futures for many homeowners and businesses. Our customers have relied on our extensive quality & experience in laying asphalt driveways and parking lots for more than four decades. Our hardworking crew will provide precise grading and prep work so the base of your new asphalt is both firm and durable.
Asphalt paving is the preferred choice today because it's less expensive to install and repair. Asphalt is strong enough to withstand automobile traffic, ideal for roads and driveways. While asphalt is extremely hard and durable, it offers enough flexibility to accommodate imperfections in underlying surfaces, a feature that concrete sorely lacks.
Thank you so much for the wonderful job you and your crew did on the driveway. It's going to make the winter seem a lot easier and I won't have to fight having water drain into the garage. We are a second generation family-owned and operated paving company serving the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis including Anoka, Ramsey, Elk River, Rogers, Otsego, St. Michael, Maple Grove, Plymouth, Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center & Champlin.
On sandy soils, 4-5" of compacted base is recommended, on clay soils, we recommend 6-8" of base. We use a recycled base called Class #7; it's a mixture of recycled asphalt and recycled concrete. The recycled parts are crushed to create a 3/4 gravel base. The Minnesota Builders Association recommends 2-2 1/2 of well compacted asphalt is necessary for residential driveway.
