Services
Bates Mill Dermatology offers Mohs micrographic surgery for treatment of skin cancers. Mohs surgery is a method of removing skin cancer (most often basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma) with narrow margins, then checking under the microscope to make sure all the cancer cells are removed. If more cancer cells are seen at the edge of what has been removed then another small layer of skin is taken and checked again.
We are located in downtown Lewiston at 70 Lincoln Street, between Main and Chestnut Streets. You will find us next to Fishbones Restaurant, in the rear of the building. Please note that we have one entrance in the same building. One entrance is for Dr. Bouman (under sign for Bates Mill Dermatology), and the other entrance is for Dr. Burns and Alison Ravis, PA-C (under sign for Mill No. 6).

No wonder why you guys are less than 3 stars... Been a patient here due to a rash developed by an allergic reaction. Accidentally I came into contact again, decided to call today to get my prescriptions refilled (previous prescription that your office prescribed) they decided I needed an appointment. The only reason for the appointment is for your buisness to make money, it literally would have cost you nothing to call in my scripts. Now I don't know what to do or where to go. Considering I have dished out thousands out of pocket to this establishment is beyond disgusting. Your supposed to be a

UPDATE: In the review below I refer specifically to one practitioner at Bates Mill, Matt Bureau. After my negative experience with him, I requested a second opinion with another provider and met with Alison Ravis, also a physician's assistant. Ms. Ravis was very helpful, professional, and pleasant. If you're a woman seeking a dermatologist who won't talk down to you or dismiss your concerns, try to get your appointment here with Alison Ravis!
This practice failed to call me to schedule an appointment upon receiving the referral from my PCP; I had to call myself to schedule after verifying that

An outstanding operation in a first class facility. Have had occasion to need them on three different occasions. Dr Burns and her Care Team get an A+ in my book. Very professional, very supportive and helpful and always take plenty of time to explain things. Really seem to care about their patients. I heartily recommend Dr Burns and her Care Team.

The most upsetting customer service I've ever had. My GPS brought me to the wrong location, I got so lost and was desperately trying to get there on time (hate being late, and always leave early to make sure I'm not) but I'm human and got lost. I called the office for help, she was incredibly rude and degrading, "it's the building on Lincoln St with the 70 on it". Super helpful. When I finally figured it out where the GPS took me instead and got there at 4:07 for a 4:00 appt. I was extremely apologetic but only met with a rude I'm gonna go check to see if they will even "accept you". She came back

The staff were great and the service was fast & thorough. However, my billing reflected a 30-45 minute visit but I wasn’t In the office more than 10 minutes. I paid my share online right away with the total being taken from my checking immediately but am still getting paper, text and email requests to pay my bill months later. I’ve spoken with them several times now with no resolution.

Dr. Peter Bouman was thorough, knowledgeable, personable and efficient. This is the 3rd appointment for skin cancer evaluation and removal. I will definitely be back in the future. NOTE: If you are using GPS for directions: Type in the office address... using the name of the office will send you to the wrong street and building where parking is difficult, not free, and quite distant.

I had a less-than-positive experience with the Bates Mill Dermatology administration. After being referred from my doctor's office and waiting 2 months for an appointment, I received a call the day before my appointment telling me that my appointment was cancelled as I had not called to confirm my appointment. (Obviously, had I been notified that I needed to call to confirm, I would have done so!) Luckily, I was able to contact one very helpful office worker who reinstated my appointment, but when I expressed my concerns to the office manager, Maryann, she was quite dismissive which was very frustrating

My son was a patient here for the past five years and now the practice is refusing to make an appointment because his secondary insurance is and has always been MaineCare - we’ve always paid our bills on time in full. The practice has never run his appointments through MaineCare as they don’t accept it. We offered to pay for the entire appointment out of pocket in advance of the appointment which they refused to accept. Now we have to drive over an hour to see a new dermatologist. Extremely disappointed that this practice has no loyalty to its patients or good business sense. I understand why

Not really sure what to think. Front desk staff and the MA were amazing. The doctor was super fast and I didn't have time for questions. Clearly not trauma informed, which was concerning. Pulled down my gown without telling me , but I believe my face showed his error. I want to like this place, the office is beautiful and the other staff are amazing. I'm thinking that the doctor struggle with trauma informed bedside manner, which can be corrected.
