Physician Housecalls provides home-based primary care medicine to homebound geriatric or chronically ill patients. One of our physicians becomes the patient's primary care doctor and works with a team of nurse practitioners and physician assistants to visit as often as needed. Founded in 2012, Physician Housecalls meets the unique and specific needs of homebound patients. These patients typically have two or more chronic diseases, making it difficult for them to leave their home for primary care services. With a focus on the geriatric population, Physician Housecalls provides home-based primary care services within the patient's place of residence.
Physician Housecalls provides primary care services, just like physicians and mid-level providers in clinics everywhere. Our typical patient has multiple chronic disease diagnoses and requires frequent monitoring to be able to remain in the home setting, whether in a private residence or an assisted living center.
Physician Housecalls (PHC) delivers the same medical services you expect from a traditional, office-based primary care clinic. The PHC team also provides complete care coordination, working in concert with facility staff, patients, familiesandinsurance companies to manage specialists, home care services, off-site testing, and medical device and equipment delivery.
Dr. Essex is a board certified internal medicine physician who has been in practice for over 25 years. Dr. Essex has practiced in a clinic setting for over 20 years as well as serving as a hospitalist for 5 years. He is also a minority owner of Physician Housecalls. Dr. Essex served in the U.S. Army and in the National Guard, retiring from service in 2012 with the rank of Colonel and having been awarded a Bronze Star.
Many of the house calls we make are not in a house at all, but rather at senior living communities. Our services are designed to help chronically ill geriatric patients access the care they need when and where they need it. We help patients live healthier lives, and help our assisted and independent living partners thrive.

Until recently, I would have given 5 stars. I’ve always had exceptional care for my son. He has been seen by numerous professionals over the years he’s been seen by Physicians House Calls. But we moved and were assigned a new doctor and it’s been a nightmare. We’ve had very poor care. I’ll sadly be changing primary care for my son.
