In 1992, James Arthur Jeffers purchases a few hundred acres of land near Raymond, Nebraska for his family to enjoy. The idea of growing a few grapevines was planted in his head by his son-in-law, Jim Ballard, now JAV's Winemaker. Soon the first 100 vines were a reality. Planted by hand, three different varieties were purchased from a nursery in upstate New York.
As the number of vines grew, so did the idea of turning the family's hobby into an actual business. After serious consideration and careful planning, James Arthur Vineyards was formally established in 1996, and officially opened the winery doors in September of 1997. With a major investment of the family's time and effort now going toward the winery, they literally began to see the fruits of their labor.

Services
No reservations are required to visit the winery during normal operating hours. You must be 21 years of age to purchase wine. Children are welcome but must be supervised at all times. You are more than welcome to bring your pet along, as long as it is on a leash and you pick up after it. Please respect, however, that no pets are allowed inside the winery.
James Arthur Vineyards is now in Lincoln's Historic Haymarket. We've set up a tasting room in our From Nebraska Shop located in the Huber Building at 8th and "Q". Along with JAV wines, our tasting room features special events including live music during the summer and before Husker home games, trivia nights, and much more!
Evening includes a glass of wine, cold appetizers, ghost stories tied to the location and a mini paranormal investigation. Steak Fry, Wine, Storytelling/Music with Chris Sayre and a haunted Hayrack Ride through the vineyard. There is no. Become Sherlock Holmes for an evening and attempt to solve a "who dunnit" during our night of fine dining, wine and murder.
James Arthur Vineyards offers an exceptional location for any special occasion, company retreat, social event or family gathering. In the following pages, you will find some of the options available for you to hold your private party at Nebraska's largest winery. Our richly appointed private party room with comfortable furnishings, rich decor, and spectacular views affords an extraordinary venue available nowhere else in the region.
Jim and Neenie Jeffers have many passions. Among them are their five children, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Their latest is James Arthur Vineyards. It's their gift to Nebraskans and to the people who visit the Cornhusker state. Jim, who previously owned Quality Pork International, a deli meat manufacturing plant in Omaha, found he couldn't stay retired.

Nice facility and outdoor patio. Settled in at a table only to realize that the tasting room also serves as the staging area for weddings. Frowny face! The wedding party was inside and doing tasting, the little flower girls were happy to have clopping sounds heels on, and the photographer, in her loudest voice, starts to shout to have the wedding party line up. Not pleasant. We decided to move out to the patio to avoid the loudness, crowd, chaos, etc. Found a nice table next to their fountain, only to have another group renting their shelter for a baby shower and going back and forth with packages

It was my first time visiting JAV. They accepted my expired Groupon which was so nice. We did the wine tasting and had a basket of warm bread, summer sausage, spinach artichoke cheese and 2 bakers chocolates. The wine was great and customer service was wonderful. The live music was The Lightening Bugs and they were a mix of the good oldies (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc.) We really enjoyed ourselves and have any to go back soon!

Very nice winery and a pleasant day.
Great grounds and staff, places to go have a relaxing glass of wine, look at the vines and go view their group area.
I was pleasantly surprised by the wines and had several tastings. Was almost like before all the Covid stuff.
Shout out to the staff lady from Kearney. So nice and helpful. She was super sweet. Thanks 🙂

Great place for a "corporate" vineyard. They have live music, great outside seating areas, good wine sample tasting options. The area is really beautiful and it has a very relaxing atmosphere. It can be rather busy though on some weekend afternoons but they have plenty of help so getting served doesn't take long.
