I was on a Reuben kick so I had to check this place out especially when I had Katz a few days before.

Survey says that Sarge gives you a bigger portion but it doesn't taste as good as Katz. The flavor of the corn beef and pastrami just weren't there. That said, the food was still solid but if you have to pick one then I would go with Katz.

Otherwise staff were chill, ok parking, and ok price

Best matzoh ball soup in NYC hands down. All of the Jewish-deli staples such as brisket, latkes, challah French toast, kasha, and soups are perfectly cooked and seasoned.

Pre-pandemic this 24-hour diner was the perfect place to end the night with friends.

Went on a Saturday. When you walk in there are a lot of people waiting for takeout/delivery so you need to walk in a bit more and you are seated immediately. The ambiance is nice and cozy. The staff is friendly and attentive.

We ordered a pastrami and corn beef on rye sandwich, chicken pot pie, 1 potato pancake and the crinkle cut fries. The sandwich was delicious (not too salty) and the meats felt nice and clean. The portions are great and generous. The pot pie was good but a bit heavy on the buttermilk flavor. The potato pancake was delicious, thick and easy to eat. The French fries were really

Yum!

My fiancée is Jewish and was so excited to bring me to an authentic deli while we're here in town.

He did some research and decided Sarge's was the place we were coming for my intro and we walked the 20 blocks or so in 11 degrees to come in for lunch.

When we arrived there were several people crowded around the door doing pickups but we were pretty quickly seated at a cozy diner-style table in the back.

There is not a ton of seating inside but it's adequate. The waitresses were harried and matter-of-fact but very efficient. You never had to ask twice for something

Great local deli with old style ambiance, vinyl booths and solid oak table. Great tasting pastrami sandwich but think I would prefer a thicker slice. Sandwich came with q different kinds of pickles and delicious cole slaw. Nice alternative to the 2nd Ave deli.

Cute neighborhood deli. When I arrived, no line to order at the counter but it quickly built up. Service was slower than expected. I got a pastrami sandwich on rye with mustard and matzo ball soup. Came out to almost $45. Matzo bowl soup was very good. Pastrami was a good hearty serving but just average. I wasn't a fan of the bread and the pastrami could've been more flavorful. Overall good option in the neighborhood but not the best one in the city.

First time in New York and wanted to try a real deli.
Everything was amazing. They delivered to our hotel and the food was still warm and extremely tasty. We ordered everything we wanted (including matzo ball soup)and while I didn't get pictures of everything, trust me, it was AMAZING.
Pictured: Turkey Pastrami and cheesecake.
Can't wait to go back.

Food of course is up to each person's taste buds.
A friend of mine that I came here with liked there food, as far as myself "ehhh its ok".

I ordered the pastrami omellete along with some country fried potatoes. What came was not an "omelette" rather just fried egg with pastrami thrown in there. What did it taste like? Like egg LOL, bland, no flavor. Some parts were burnt looking like the dark side of the moon.

Potatoes? were potatoes LOL, bland and flavorless as well.

The pastrami meat, now this would probably be an unfair comparison, but after having had Kat&apos

Spacious diner with a very extensive menu. Everything I’ve tried here has been good but what makes this place special is their meat dishes. I think their pastrami & corned beef sandwich is better than Katz's! Little bit pricier than other diners but the quality makes it worth it

Jewish-style deli & diner serving up huge sandwiches, bagels with schmear + lox, classic matzo ball soup, kreplach, and so much more. classic NYC deli / diner vibe-- old school booth and table seating options are abundant. the restaurant has a worn-in feel.

if you're looking to gorge on the comfort food calories of Jewish fare then you have a lot of options at Sarge's. while the sandwiches piled high with pastrami, corned beef, brisket, etc are awesome-- but the hidden gem is the HUGE chopped liver sandwich. LIVER! rich smooth savory chopped chicken liver (pate like) with the flavors

TLDR: Lovely no frills Jewish deli with an expansive menu. Came for the hot pastrami sandwich, fell in love with the corned beef/pastrami deli wellington.

Vibe: 4/5. Talk about taking a step back in time. Upon entering Sarge's, you are greeted by the deli clerk who stands behind a deli case filled with a cornucopia of meats. In the dining room, large diner style vinyl booths occupy most of the space with the exception of a handful of standard 4 top tables.

Service: 5/5. We came for breakfast around 9am on a Friday with the dining area at a quarter occupancy. There was only 1 server covering

The Monday after Christmas, was doing errands and I happen to be in the vicinity of Sarge Delicatessen and Diner, decided that I would get their pastrami sandwich. It's a bit of a walk from closest subway stop at 33rd st which is on the 6 train. Anyway, the walk was pleasant.
The diner had both outdoor and indoor dining though there was no one seated outdoors possibly because of the cold temperatures and the seating had no heated lamps.
The place was crowded up front as walk in patrons were milled around the counter. Actually, you could not tell if they were in line or had made their order and

I usually order takeout but had the occasion to dine in with family on a recent Sunday morning. Vaccination status was checked and they had plastic dividers between tables. The service was pretty quick. The hot pastrami sandwich was cut thin and juicy and towered high on the bread. The matzoh ball soup also hit the spot. My family also enjoyed the mushroom barley soup and burger. Reasonable prices for good portions of food. Definitely stop by to eat in or take out.

Spent Thanksgiving day lunch here. Ordered our favorite pastrami and corned beef combo sandwich because we can't stop dreaming about it. That combo sandwich is a mouthful, the biggest sandwich I've ever seen in Manhattan since Carnegie Deli closed. And the layers of thinly sliced meat is perfectly tender and juicy sandwiched with creamy cole slaw and Thousand Island dressing. We had a meat fest because we also ordered the Hudson sandwich - an open-faced sandwich of pastrami and corned beef topped with sauerkraut and melted Swiss cheese and a side dish of Russian dressing. That wasn

Best place to get Jewish deli food in nyc!
I was so happy to see Sarge’s reopen after the shutdown. I’ve been going there for 16 years and it’s still my favorite place to get Jewish deli food. I always the get the same thing: pastrami, matzo ball soup and fries. ( feel free to ask for a fatty cut of pastrami if you like it a little greasier). And to top off the good food, the customer service is EXCELLENT!
It’s a little pricey, but its worth it.

Tip: If you pay cash, you can avoid a 3.5% surcharge. You pay at the front once you're done with your meal, so it was a bit awkward since I had to go back to our table to leave the cash tips.

Service: I don't really comment on the service generally, but even for NY, our servers were on the brisk side. At the very least, I think I could expect them to acknowledge when they hear me?

Friend and I split the 3rd Avenue sandwich ($27 - open faced sandwich with hot corned beef, hot pastrami, fries, and derma - a kind of mealy patty with something like gravy on top) and the 4 herring sampler

This place is awesome. Not as famous as Katz’s Deli or Carnegie Deli, but just as good in my opinion. The other location delivers 24/7 on weekends. They start you with Cole slaw and a couple pickles (half dill and a garlic). I got the souper soup (matzo ball with kreplach and noodles). The Kreplach was delicious and huge. The matzo ball was fluffy and large. The pastrami and tongue sandwich with Swiss was YUGE and delicious. I took half home and made a second meal out of it. 10/10. Will order in soon.

I ordered dinner for delivery to our hotel - I got a chicken salad on Rye with lettuce and tomato. My granddaughter wanted a salami sandich on white with provolone.

The sandwiches were huge and more than we could eat in one sitting. I finished mine the next day. My granddaughter's had an enormous amount of meat on it that she pared down. I get it, NY Deli - a lot of meat. She actually didn't finish it because she said the meat was a little dry. This $20 sandwich went to waste. I don't eat beef or pork, so I was little help.

My $13 sandwich was very good.
