Not just a bunch of random techniques; instead professor teaches a topic every week which he builds upon as the week progresses and ties the flow to previous weeks. I love coming to this place for the Muay Thai class. The environment is very open and supportive, while the workout sessions are always challenging. The Muay Thai classes are great for all skill levels and I highly recommend.
As an update to my previous review, the longer I am a member to this gym, the more I realize that I have found a very special place and group of people to train with.

After my kids lost interest in swimming we had to find something both physically and mentally challenging to continue their growth as young adults. We searched long and hard for about six months before settling on CheckMat Gulf Breeze and it has by far been the decision that we made. The Professors are caring, professional, and loving of what they do. We have been training here for two years now and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. The kids enjoyed it so much that I started training as well! I highly recommend this establishment to all my family and friends within the area!!

My family has only been here for a short time but we feel that Checkmat Gulf Breeze is the best Brazilian Jiujitsu academy around. The professors are world class, ultra competitive, and highly focused on their students’ improvement and performance. We travel 40 minutes from Pace and pay tolls twice a day to train here. More than worth it.

I'm a 22 year military veteran and have gone to all types of gyms, all over the world and to be honest none have had THIS type family feel. Great professors, great training partners, great gym!!! The quality of training and wealth of knowledge that each professor has shows in each and every competition if you end up choosing to compete!!!

The whole family at Checkmat as been such a positive influence on my children. The patients shown in training my three year old is above and beyond anything you can imagine. Professor Evan, Professor Barber, and coach Nick alway put the extra effort in making the Jiu Jitsu journey exciting and fun for the kids while maintaining the values of discipline. I moved to florida and was looking for a jiu-jitsu gym... I found Gulfbreeze Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (Checkmat). I don't regret starting my training there. It is the best place, including if you want to compete! The environment is so good, I felt at home soon after starting training. The professors are professional and have a huge background in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. The amenities are always clean. They sanitize the mats every day more than once. From a person who’s studied martial arts most of their life you are not gonna find a higher quality studio, or one that cares about the quality of their students. CheckMat is by far one of the highest quality gyms in the area. The students are from all ages and experiences who come together and train. The quality of the instruction shows through the students, their ability, and any tournaments CheckMat shows up to. I highly recommend this place for anybody, any age, and any experience level, kids, families, couples and individuals all trained together.

Switched from another Jitzu academy and soon felt home in a family oriented and friendly environment. The building is spacious and always clean. Lots of parking spots available and definitely worth the drive. All professors are extremely knowledgeable and guide both adults and kids throughout the Bjj journey. I’m super happy I’ve found this place and think is definitely the best in the Panhandle. It takes us about 40 min to get here but is definitely worth the drive!!!
