Established in 1970, The Elgin Parent Co-Op School is a not-for-profit, parent-owned cooperative preschool for children ages three to six. Our preschool and kindergarten programs provide an enriching experience through creative play. Students learn under the guidance of our Director, Assistant Director, and parents trained in our teaching philosophy.
We are located in a large space in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church on Elgin's near west side. Parking and the entrance to the school are in the back. Preschool parents have the unique opportunity to be actively involved with their child's early school experience.

Services
Elgin Parent Co-op School (EPCS) began as a playgroup, formed by parents whose child had been enrolled in a similar program in San Francisco. A group of parents discussed, planned, and publicized their interests. They held bake sales and garage sales so that the school could rent a space in the basement of Grace United Methodist Church, where the preschool was established in 1970.
Playground, splash pad, tennis court, skate plaza, soccer field, baseball field, and basketball field. Playground, large sand play area with water and diggers, chalk wall, interactive music area, talk tubes and more. Large slide in nearby hill. Zoo with bison, deer and elk, a walking path around a lake with ducks and geese to feed, and enormous grassy areas for playing and picnics.
We offer a caring, respectful environment that allows for freedom of creativity and self-expression. Our programs have been carefully designed to facilitate the growth of your child's social, emotional, physical, and mental well-being. Yet fun is still our main goal - allowing children to be children.
The mission of EPCS's Kindergarten Program is to support life-long learning by promoting independent exploration, enhancing problem solving skills, and expanding social skills. Our program encourages positive self-image by providing age and developmentally appropriate learning experiences in a safe and supportive community.
Our teachers believe that play is an essential component of growth and learning. Miss Debi and Miss Karin believe that a positive self-image and positive relationships are important ingredients of a successful life. Our children play hard and work hard each day - exploring, discovering, and learning - both independently and together.

Every preschool has finger paints and trikes, books and blocks, but the Co-Op offers so much more. As a member of the school, you ARE the school and it is a wonderful community to be a part of. Having the training and opportunity to be part of the teaching staff at the school has made me a better parent and my entire family is better off for having attended.
