While we were restoring our building, twenty years ago, a poet named "Saku" stuck his head in the door and said with a rather exotic dialect. What great positive energy you've instilled here, and just the right balance of ionic charges that can be felt upon entering this tranquil eatery. We learned early on, that we were responsible for serving more - than the best Hot Corned Beef Sandwich in Houston, we started a legacy!
Carter & Cooley Company is dedicated to preserving the history of the Heights. We restored a building that was built in 1921, as part of a thriving "downtown" Heights. We have collected many pictures which represent the Historic Houston Heights street scenes, people, and homes. Progress is preservation.

One of the top 3 sandwiches I've had in Houston. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Excellent meat. Healthy portion. Amazing rye bread. Nice space (old style). Friendly folks.

Amazing food. It feels like an old school Houston sandwich shop. They have old picture of the Heights.

It's an old fashioned sandwich deli in the Heights. What's not to like? The sandwiches are large and made with fresh produce. You can't go wrong. I love the Club and the Ham and Swiss, but I'm looking forward to trying more. Parking can be a bit of a drag, so go early or pack some patience with you.

Customer service was lacking. The sandwiches were just OK. Definitely NOT with the $33 it cost my wife and I to eat lunch. There was not, in fact, much meat on the sandwich. Do yourself a favor and just go across the street to Torchy's Tacos.

Great sandwiches, however, the meat to bread ratio leaves much to be desired. The sandwiches aren't cheap. I've been going to this place for a pretty long time the quality has diminished. Too bad it used to be my go-to for my sandwich fix.😩

I would suggest not ordering The Reuben sandwich. I bit into the sandwich within two minutes of it being ready and the bread was super soggy. I am surprised that the bread appeared to be like a texas toast bread. It is not the type of bread needed for a Reuben sandwich. The corn beef was very tough. I should have taken the sandwich back in and asked for something else or my money back, but it was raining outside and I did not want to deal with it, so I threw the almost $13 sandwich away. I will probably not re-visit this place and would not recommend it. If you do visit this place, do not order

This sandwich place is an old part of the community. It's a great place to take a break from shopping and get lunch. It's nothing fancy, but it's good at the basics. The hot sandwiches are really just cooked on a panini press, so skip the tuna melt and the cuban sandwich if you're looking for classic versions of those.

Carter and Cooley is a great local deli located on 19th streets in the Heights. I've been there many times after checking out the nearby shops and have always enjoyed my food. It's refreshing in this day and age to go to a sandwich place that isn't run by a large chain. My favorite sandwich there is the BLT and it's even better when eaten on warm wheat bread. The only complaint I have is that the prices are pretty high for what you get. It's hard to justify $10 for a BLT with potato salad. It's definitely tasty, but would be better if it was a little cheaper.
