Services
I am Linda Hart Tabory, the firm's founder and lawyer. After a successful career in public policy, I started my own practice geared toward helping everyday people. My 30-plus years of legal experience gives me a strong background in analyzing complex issues. I apply that experience to guide clients through the legal concerns involved in caring for a loved one and dealing with the legal aftermath of a loss.
A guardianship is when a court appoints someone to manage the health and well-being of another person. A Conservatorship is when a court appoints someone to manage the income and assets of another person. The person appointed by a court to make medical and placement decisions for another person is called a guardian.
Long term care planning is the process of reviewing your finances, your health and your wishes to understand your possible future needs and how you will get them met. It is estate planning with a booster rocket.

Long term care considerations include, whether to purchase long term care insurance, how to title your assets, whether an annuity is appropriate, are there any special circumstances that need to be taken into account such as a disabled child. This is only the beginning of the list. A thorough conversation with an experienced professional can help you focus on what you can do now and what your options might look like in the future.
Probate is both a type of court and a proceeding within the Probate Court. A probate proceeding in a probate court refers to the administration of a decedent's estate whether there is a Will or not. If a person did not leave a Will the State has a series of laws providing who should receive what.

The probate court's job is to make sure the law is followed regarding the rights of the deceased person's creditors and the rights of the deceased person's heirs. There are a number of different types of proceedings that can be used to transfer assets held in the name of a decedent into the name of the person the decedent wanted to have it.
A Power of Attorney is a written document telling someone they can act on behalf of someone else. Usually powers of attorney relate to the ability to manage another person's property, income or finances. Any person over the age of 18 should have one of these in case of an accident or illness. Being married to someone does not automatically include the right to manage a spouse's finances.
