Dr. Jim Tatum was born in Savannah, Georgia, and moved to Opelika when he was two. He graduated high school from Lee Academy in Auburn, Alabama. He then went on to receive a BS in Chemistry from Auburn University in 1983. In 1987, he graduated from the University of Florida College of Dentistry and spent his first year of private practice with his father, O. Hilt Tatum, Jr., in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Dr. Jim Tatum offers the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique to treat gum recession! This periodontal treatment works to gently pull your gum tissue back up over areas where it has receded to improve your oral health and smile. This treatment is minimally invasive and gives you a more comfortable procedure as well as a quicker healing time.
Opelika Dental Arts offers LANAP laser periodontal treatment for patients with gum disease. LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) works to remove diseased gum tissue and promote gum tissue regeneration. This treatment uses an advanced Periolase laser to target the diseased tissue in your mouth and begin the process of helping you regain your oral health.

Im such a big baby when it comes time to go to the Dentist! I recently had two teeth extracted! And they did a wonderful job keeping me calm and checking to make sure I was comfortable the whole time. I didn’t feel any pain during my visit. Caring for their patients is definitely there first priority!

Naturally, personnel changes have taken place during that time, but an overall policy and philosophy of quality, friendly, courteous patient care has been evident for our entire relationship. Only if referred, would I consider going anywhere else.
