The 8-acre woolen mill complex that sits alongside the Mill Race canal was once the industrial center of the village of Amana. Textiles were essential to Amana's beginnings. In addition to producing goods for the community's use, the Mill helped support the colonists' communal living by selling textiles across the country, gaining a national reputation for superior woolens.
Rich traditions of enduring quality, uncompromising craftsmanship, community living, and genuine hospitality have continued within its walls since 1855. As Iowa's only remaining textile mill, we believe in the importance of preserving the talent and ideas of American manufacturing. Production keeps our community strong.

We spent a weekend in Amana for the Prelude to Christmas festival and stayed at Hotel Millwright. The hotel is beautifully designed and a great value for the price. The room was cozy and well appointed. The Electric Room cocktail lounge was hip and the bartender made us festive drinks. We had breakfast at the Indigo Room and everything was delicious - my husband raved about the biscuits and gravy! You can tell the staff take pride in what they do and they've created a really special place to stay in East Central Iowa.

Horrible experience at Hotel Millwright lobby bar on Friday night. My boyfriend and I went inside the hotel as the bar outside was full. We were the only ones sitting at the lobby bar, enjoying a beer and football on the bar TV when an extremely intoxicated, loud drunk man dressed in pajama pants (pulled up to his knees) and cowboy boots on sat… down at the bar and started yelling at us and the staff. We tried to ignore him, but when he started to physically beat a dog that he had with him and the dog peed on the floor, I went up to front desk and asked that they kick this guy out. Even

We wanted to stay in The Amana Colonies. A very laid back 300 year old settlement.
Originally from Germany.
This Hotel is a converted woolen mill done in the most professional style. Reusing lots of the mechanical equipment as art in the halls.
There is full dining and a separate Whiskey Bar.
On our first night we ate in the village.
We were so impressed with all we experienced, we extended another night.
We use Booking dot com and get a superior rate.
Tomorrow will be another day of Antique shopping.
What a great place.

This has been converted beautifully, and the front desk staff is attentive and available. The same cannot be said unfortunately for the restaurant (Indigo Blue). We had to wait for the one attendant, a manager even let us know she would be up "soon". About 8 minutes later, she did come and took our order but seemed out of sorts. We also watched 2 groups wait for 10 minutes and leave, and another man waited 15 minutes before another party walked back to the kitchen to let them know people were waiting. Truly unacceptable, and you're going to kill off the small traffic you have.

This hotel just open and is a historical building. First, it is pricey - we had a double queen and our final price with taxes and fees was $187 per night - we had three adults. It is a beautiful building with a lovely lobby and fireplace. Matthew checked us in and was very helpful, kind and professional. Our room was huge - this was a factory and many of its aspects have been maintained. That's and good and bad - because it is steel girders, concrete and mostly no carpeting it is LOUD when people come down the hallways. The windows are original and leak - someone had but a piece of cardboard

What an amazing experience! We stayed at Hotel Millwright as part of a small group and were delighted at every turn in this historical yet modern building. Every room we saw we was unquie and the coolest part is all of the artifacts that have been collected by the Amana Society that are used throughout the buildings as decor. It's really gorgeous and the whole vibe there is really awesome.
We had really great service and loved the fireplace built into both sides of the smokestack (inside and out) and the Electric Thread whiskey bar. The bartender (Joe!) was an excellent mixologist and also

The potential is there but need to address service shortcomings- there did not seem to be rhyme or reason to who was taking care of which customers. We got warm dinner bread and then 10 minutes later got a plate of butter. 4 different people waited on us, took 2 hours to complete our dining visit,an hour to get the 2nd drink ordered, food order was wrong. The part of order that was correct was good, hence the potential. Social distancing was not happening as a group was seat 1 foot away from each of us. Different type of food choices , pretty pricey but to be expected. Pork belly appetizer was
